Above VTT

Above VTT

Above VTT is a free, independently-made browser extension for Google Chrome and Firefox that converts a user's D&D Beyond account into a virtual tabletop. With a few clicks, a GM can pull up a gridded map from an adventure they own or created by the community, complete with official and homebrew monster stat blocks. Players can add their characters to the map and access all the functions of D&D Beyond, including dice rolls, spells, and character sheet tracking as they navigate the adventure. Above VTT supports text chat, custom content, and of course, the use of everything a user owns on their D&D Beyond account, as well as voice and video through a free third-party web application. It also includes tools for fog of war and switching between maps and scenes. Its primary draw, however, is almost certainly its integration of rules and rolls from each player's account on D&D Beyond. Above VTT is currently in an open beta test, and not in its feature-complete full version, according to the developer.

Above VTT Tutorial and Review

Get a rundown and review of how Above VTT stacks up to D&D Beyond Maps and a tutorial for Above in this video. First, you'll need to download and install the extension for your web browser. Then you can create a scene by either uploading a map from your owned content on D&D Beyond, Above's community content, or using a custom image URL. Once you have a map, you can play around with Above VTT's tools, including a ruler, fog of war, walls, light and vision, drawing, text, and areas of effect.

You can also import characters and NPCs, complete with tokens, directly to your map from your D&D Beyond account using Above's integration, even accessing encounters you've build using Beyond's encounter builder. Above also allows users to upload music, which they can play so everyone at the table can listen simultaneously.

Above VTT's combat tracker lets GMs organize initiative, view their players' character sheets and their monster stat blocks, and automatically roll attacks and damage just like they would on D&D Beyond. You can also apply conditions, concentrations, and other helpful reminders to tokens in combat.
