About W.R. Boyles
I have been telling stories since I was a young child. As an only child in a military family, the stories I told myself were often the only constants in my life. Perhaps it was inevitable I would call grappling with words and language a career—and I love every moment. After getting a J.D., a degree fit for a story teller, I began to write the stories I told. Too often in my life, I held myself back waiting for that perfect moment. I am privileged to share my work with a large and welcoming audience. Get in touch to discover more about my worlds, creative process, and how we can get together for a great session or campaign. I have experience with a number of different TTRPG systems, from the traditional D&D 3, 3.5, 4E, and 5th Edition, along with the more unique systems like FATE and Shadowrun. Cooperation and communication are key at my tables. Everyone should be respectful of the other players efforts and time. I don't tolerate any kind of hatred or disrespect at my tables. I play, like most people, to have fun. We build stories together and we don't all come at the game from the same place, but we are on the journey together. If someone is interrupting that fun, I would rather not play the game.

I became a GM because
I love being able to tell a story with other people and really getting to play with our imaginations. Too many people forget the importance stories have. It's space to explore things we don't get to do in real life, so I encourage players to stretch their minds to get the most out of each session.
My favorite system of all Time is
3.5, if you are playing with people who aren't intentionally min-maxing. The system allows for a ton of freedom and creativity in creating your character to feel unique and special, whereas in 5th a lot of that was simplified which is great for newer players and for balance purposes.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Dynamic, Narrative-Driven, Collaborative
How W.R. Boyles runs games
As a seasoned Dungeon Master, I have a deep understanding of the game’s rules, allowing me to effectively guide both new and veteran players. I excel at explaining complex mechanics in a way that makes them accessible to newcomers, ensuring everyone can jump in and enjoy the adventure. For experienced players, I appreciate the nuances of gameplay and can engage in more intricate discussions about strategy and character development. I believe that the heart of any campaign lies in creativity and storytelling. I encourage players to think outside the box, empowering them to describe their actions in their own unique ways. While I have a solid foundation in the rules, I embrace the "rule of cool." When players show genuine investment in their ideas, I’m open to bending the rules to enhance the narrative and create memorable moments. This flexibility fosters an environment where everyone feels involved and inspired, making the game more enjoyable. That said, I maintain the rules as a baseline to ensure fairness and consistency. My goal is to strike the perfect balance between structure and creativity, allowing for a dynamic and engaging gaming experience where every player can shine. Let's embark on an adventure together where the only limit is our imagination!

I prep by
I use the main story that I have designed as a backbone to the campaign, but I tend to mostly prep based off of what the party did in the most recent session. I find this makes my prep more effective because it looks forward but keeps the players in control of where the story is going.
Rules are...
"The Code is more what you'd call 'guidelines' than actual rules." I use the base rules of the game we are playing, working with my players to understand which rules are important and which aren't as important for the game they are wanting to play. Some groups like gold to have weight, others don't
When it comes to voices
I love voices! I have a few I'm pretty good at and others I'm not so great with. I try to use voices to differentiate people in scenes, as well as make it slightly more immersive for the players, but I don't require anyone else to use them unless they want! Not everyone wants to be vulnerable!
W.R. Boyles's ideal table
At my table, we work to grow an inclusive atmosphere which welcomes all players, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Personally, I thrive on collaborative storytelling, encouraging creative thinkers and team players to contribute to the narrative and shape their characters' arcs together. The vibe is energetic and fun, filled with laughter and excitement as the party navigates challenges, while maintaining a respectful and supportive environment. Sessions typically last 3 to 5 hours, meeting regularly to build continuity and deepen character development. I try to embrace a mix of established rules and homebrew elements, ensuring a fresh and engaging experience for everyone. This table is perfect for those who love creativity, collaboration, and adventure!

I am for a vibe that's...
I am for a vibe that's inclusive and collaborative, where creativity and teamwork flourish in an energetic and fun atmosphere. I enjoy storytelling that allows everyone to contribute, with rich character development and unexpected plot twists, reminiscent of Dimension 20 or NADPODD's dynamic styles.
I love it when a player
Takes a chance. When you see something in the game that seems like it may be difficult, but you want to try anyway? Failure is a great way to grow characters, I often find Nat 1's being just as important as Nat 20's. On the flip side, if you take the risk and succeed? That's a fantastic story!
My table is not the place for...
My table is a collaborative space that people should be allowed to safely explore their characters and choices without feeling as if they will be judged or harassed. If you are not okay with that, my table isn't for you. No Exceptions.
