About This Old Squatch
Hello, my name is Patrick dougherty Beschen, AKA This Old Squatch or simply Squatch. I've been playing and writing D&D pretty much ever since a childhood friend introduced me to it in the late '80s. We'd spend weekends playing AD&D 2nd edition until we couldn’t stay awake any longer, playing again upon waking. I was just a mere player devouring the intellect of my friend as he Game Mastered us through epic tales of adventure. Life happened and he no longer had the time, however, the urge to play remained in me. I dipped my toes into GM-ing with my brother and it went horribly, but was practice all the same. I soon found a group amongst peers and kept playing until relocating to the Pacific Northwest in '06. Around '14, at the neighborhood bar I worked at, I spied a group of regulars playing something and rolling dice. It was D&D and they invited me to join. The fire was reignited. I bought the Dungeon Masters Guide and started writing my own campaign while learning 5e. Since '16, I've been Game Mastering at least one in person regular game in a homebrew world and am finishing up two in person long campaigns - a ten-year homebrew and a Curse of Strahd game. A DM I respect brought this forum to my attention, and I look forward to crafting adventures for new and interesting people.

How This Old Squatch runs games
I would say my game mastering style is versatile, balancing RP and combat. Each game is different and set of players unique, so I prep accordingly or shoot from the hip when they have their own plans. I enjoy creating complex BBEGs with back stories and lives. What led them to be evil? What's their motivation? Having murderous monstrosities with mayhem on the mind is just as enjoyable as an insidious villain with plans of treachery. It's all about creating an enjoyable, immersive environment for the players and their characters while letting them choose their own adventure into the realms of imagination.

I don't really have a favorite. I love them all and will try to use them in appropriate places as needed.
My games focus on...
...the fun. If my players are not enjoying the moment then I am doing it wrong. Every player and every table are different. I try to adapt to the moment so everyone can have fun.
When it comes to voices
...I try my best. I do like to entertain and if an NPC needs a silly voice to lighten the mood, then why not? A grumpy old king might need to have a gruff voice. It really depends on the table.
This Old Squatch's ideal table
My Ideal table is 3-5 players who can mesh well as a team. Players who like to RP in and out of combat. I love epic scenes with epic villains. Taking into account our own human condition, weaving fantasy with a little taste of life. Finding the motivation of a villain instead of just murdering, or maybe just murdering them. It is really up to the table and the dice.

...bigotry/racism/hate. I run inclusive LGTBQ+ friendly games and will also not tolerate any sexual violence. This is the warning. An offense gets you kicked from the game and reported.
