About The Rabbit

Howdy I go by Rabbit (Old highschool nickname that stuck), But you can also call me Ian. I have been playing roleplaying games sense high school and the vast majority of that as a GM. I use to be big into the heros journey and the telling of the epics. but over time I have come to prefer Darker stories one where heroes are Heroic cause they are willing to suffer through the nightmare and come through it worse for ware. The ending often being "Was it worth it?" I run alot of warhammer 40k RPGs mainly the old fantasy flight systems (Dark heresy, Only war, Rogue Trader, Death watch, Black crusade.) But I am an avid collector of sytemes and books from cyberpunk 5e, The old starship troopers Role-playing game, World of darkness and its funny sequel reboot chronicles of darkness, the star wars games, He'll I have run the fan made Naruto and bleach classless rpgss at one point and so much more. In general I am willing to run most systems and games just don't expect "power fantasy" and Rightousness to be core parts of the story. Characters gear strong as a product of there wits and enviroument and being good often goes unrewarded. On the topic of good I am also a fan of villainous campaigns from your Disney villains too your vlad the impaled and hat nailers. So if you ever wanted to play out some actual evil I can provide that too.

I got started GMing...

In Middle school i was introduced too D&D 3.5 by my good buddies dad me him another friend would play games and eventually i took a stab at GMing and it was all over after that i have all ways had a game running sense and i am 32 now.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Only War, Mekton Zeta, Infinity the roleplaying game. Only war cause i have too have somthing 40k. Mekton cause i love mecha and i would finally have time to build all the things in that game. and Infinity cause it just oozes rule of cool.

How The Rabbit runs games

Man I can be alittle manic from building entire secondary game mechanics to really make it feel like your leading an army, Weather mechanics for a survival campaign, So on I like focusing in on a topic/Idea and really making the best I can of that thing. If it was a game about running a chapter of space marines you bet I am gunna have tables of marines and all there gear and there current health and so on all ready for management. If it's a story campaign about social intrigue you best bet I am building a web based on how much each character likes each other character to mechanically track relationships. For me it's all about running the coolest version of what ever the campaign idea is even if that means building a bunch of extra Greeblies for the game. From there I want the game to feel lived in and dangerous. If a character is under the affect of illusion magic I won't tell them instead I will start describing the world in an altered world state for them. Context clues are my bread and butter. most combat systems I run RAW with small adjustments if things drag out in a way that's not fun.

I once ran a session...

More then just a session, I ran an entire campaign focused on a single trench position lasting the entire campaign. going from engagement to engagement the down time, the struggles of supply and getting the wrong thing. It was a challenge keeping something so focused fun, But so worth it.

My favorite trope is...

Tragic Heroes. Heroism is ultimately only heroic when it comes at some cost, there is no heroes journey with out its rise and fall and personally i find nothing more heroic then watching a protagonist struggle against greater darkness and failing but leaving hope that another can finish the task!

Rules are...

a fundamental reason to use one system over an other, while they are ultimately a guide line to add structure to the RP they are shaped the way they are for a reason so while i am fairly focused on RAW every system has that bit of wiggle were Rule of cool just works better in the moment.

The Rabbit's ideal table

i like too leave room for some jokes and japes but generally i like too keep things focused and in-character as much as i can. Generally i like to keep an air of tension and danger (i run mostly horror/Grimdark/dark fantasy/Dark sci-fi games) i like to provide creative challenges with open solutions so i want my players to think and communicate with each other (when it makes sense of course! some times ya just gotta blow things up and run.) i Swear alot i am not a PG person and most days i struggle just too keep things strictly PG-13.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

The Warrior Returns, Warhammer 40k, The Witcher, Black Lagoon, Band of Brothers, Claymore, Berserk, Cyberpunk/shadowrun. if you can get behind a good War action movie/show. or can enjoy a good tragic story we will 100% mesh. If you like any series where heros struggle then we will mesh

I love it when a player

I love when characters come up with clear goals for there characters and push for said goals i know alot of people want to run a specific direction. but i like when characters are the driving force of the story more so then serving the narrative and playing there "role" in the story so to speak.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Its a massive Red Flag when a player brings a "joke" as a character too the table. its one thing to have a funny meme attached to a character but when that is all the character is it falls apart every time. i have seen cults of Swol, and Ring Worshipping halfings.. but lets not name a char Smegol...
