About Sean

I’ve been playing and running tabletop RPGs and LARPs since 1992, with deep roots in both classic and modern systems. My experience spans Basic D&D (BECMI), AD&D 2nd Edition, and the entire Classic World of Darkness line from White Wolf — especially Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Over the years, I’ve played in and organized numerous Vampire: The Masquerade LARPs, including one that I ran successfully for six years, reaching as many as 24 active players at its peak. That experience taught me how to balance story arcs, manage player dynamics, and keep long-running campaigns engaging and fair. As a storyteller, I focus on narrative depth, character growth, and meaningful choices. While I enjoy a good battle map or dice roll as much as anyone, I treat combat and mechanics as tools that serve the story — not the other way around. My tastes run toward traditional fantasy, modern/urban fantasy, science fiction, and character-driven narratives. I draw creative inspiration from a lifetime of enjoying literature, cinema, anime, western animation, and rich world-building across genres.

I became a GM because

I love storytelling. Creating worlds and characters and plot-lines. In RPGs, as a game master, I get to do this with others. I get to create a world where others can enter and tell their stories. I get to be both the weaver of tales and the most privileged member of the audience.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Dungeons & Dragons 5e; you can debate if it is the best version of D&D, but it serves as a distillation of some of the best aspects of the game. At the very least, it is very fun to run. Vampire the Masquerade, my other favorite. Rounding it out is the Lone Wolf RPG.

My favorite books are

The Lord of the Rings & the Hobbit, The Chronicles of Prydain, Lone Wolf series by Joe Dever, The Crow by J.O.Barr, Incarnations series by Piers Anthony, numerous comics & manga, Dragonlance Chronicles & Legends, the Changeling Trilogy by Jackie Cassada, & Guardians of the Flame by Joel Rosenberg.

How Sean runs games

To me story is the most critical aspect of any RPG. Game mechanics are a tool but never the central focus. Their value is to craft a dynamic story with moments that would be bereft of feeling were they scripted. Conflict in a game does not always have to be combat focused. Diplomacy, deception, intrigue, & politics are varying ways a conflict can be resolved. There is always an effort made to make as many of these options available to the players as possible. My games lean far more on role-play than mechanics with an emphasis on character development and sometimes even deconstruction. Make no mistakes though; I will happily guide a D&D party through the lair of a red dragon with a promise of epic combat at the end! Consent and inclusion is a priority at my table. Safety Tools are used and are non-negotiable. It will always be made very clear to players if a game will focus around mature themes. Your lines, veils, and identity will always be respected. I have the most experience with various iterations of Dungeons & Dragons from BECMI to 5e and with the entire “Classic” World of Darkness line, especially Vampire the Masquerade. I present an immersive world where players can create fun and engaging stories. Sitting at my table, I will be working to evoke your feelings; be they laughter at the antics of an NPC, or the horror of realizing your character just did something that will haunt them forever. There are so many Stories to tell; shall we tell them together?

I deal with rules issues by...

Making a call in the moment that is most favorable to the overall health of the game and the story. Exact rules can be looked up between games and discussed for "next time." I prefer not to slow down game to pull out a book when I have the experience and judgement to make a call in the moment.

I once ran a session...

I once ran a session of Vampire the Masquerade LARP with 24 players juggling three or four plotlines over a four or five hour session. It was chaotic, intense and a lot of fun.

Rules are...

The most important rules for me are to have fun and tell a great story. Sometimes this means following rules as written, and sometimes that means Rule of Cool. In the end, I want everyone to have a great time and end a game wanting to know what will happen next!

Sean's ideal table

At my table, storytelling comes first. The dice tell part of the tale, but the real magic comes from the characters, their choices, and how they shape the world around them. I strive to create an immersive, cooperative experience where every player feels like their actions matter. If you enjoy rich lore, character development, and moral dilemmas wrapped in epic fantasy — you’ll feel right at home here. Combat is important, but it’s not the only focus; I balance it with moments of exploration, intrigue, and meaningful roleplay. I’m patient, adaptable, and welcoming to both new and experienced players. I value curiosity and creativity more than “perfect optimization.” My table is a place for teamwork, learning, and shared storytelling — not rules-lawyering or spotlight hogging. The general vibe is friendly, thoughtful, and story-driven. Expect dragons, diplomacy, difficult choices, and the occasional moral gray area. My goal is simple: help you get lost in the adventure and walk away each session excited for what comes next.

I am for a vibe that's...

I aim for a vibe where the players fall into the story; where they feel safe enough to fall into the story. I always want my table to be open and inclusive to anyone and everyone that shows up ready to play.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you’re into deep storytelling, character growth, and moral choices that shape the world... If you’re into epic quests, cunning villains, and standing shoulder to shoulder against impossible odds... If you’re into laughter, teamwork, and telling great stories, you're going to love my table!

I love it when a player

explores the depths of a character in game. Allowing them to have flaws, fears, and the possibility of failure. I love it when a player steps forward and puts a character in danger or makes what they know is a "bad" decision because it makes the story better for everyone at the table.
