About Moxie
Hi, I'm Moxie! I've been a GM for over ten years, and even before that, I was playing "Talk Games" with my friends every day on the playground. I really believe a GM's job is to facilitate a collaborative storytelling experience-- not to dictate it. I love it when my players help flesh out the world and make it feel more lived-in, and I think it's important to make all the player characters feel like they're collectively the main characters of the story. I'm mostly familiar with D&D 5/5.5e, Marvel's d616 system, and Powered by the Apocalypse (including Monster of the Week, Urban Shadows, and Avatar Legends). That said, I'm the type of person who reads new sourcebooks in a day, and I'm always excited to try out new systems! If you've been itching to play something new or weird, send me a message, and I'll check it out.

How Moxie runs games
It sounds like a cop-out, but honestly, the most important thing to me as a GM is making my players happy with their experience. That involves building a world and a story that fit the characters first and foremost. That said, it's important to me to always try to elevate the experience. If my players like combat, I'm not just going to give them a couple of goblins to fight on a flat map. I'm going to give them multiple different objectives, enemy types, and obstacles on a dynamic map, complete with sounds and special effects. Combat should never feel like a beat-em-up slog. I try to do the same sort of thing with roleplay, puzzles, and exploration. Over the years, I've learned that visual aids are super important for a lot of players, so expect to see slideshows with all the characters you'll meet and locations you'll visit. And I'm a big fan of how background music can sell immersion, so I make custom playlists for each new campaign.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Bruce Timm. I think TTRPGs are more like TV shows than movies — the storytelling needs to be emotionally driven but also ergonomic. Bruce Timm and I also both value creating a world that feels lived-in and balancing comedy with drama as needed.
My favorite trope is...
Prophecies. I try my best to avoid putting a prophecy in every single campaign, but that's the thing about prophecies, isn't it? The more you try to avoid them, the more inevitable they become.
Moxie's ideal table
... is where players engage in the creative storytelling process. I love it when players take initiative with creative backstories, place aspects of their own histories or cultures into the worldbuilding, and take the campaign in new directions I never could have anticipated. If that seems daunting, don't worry! I also love working with beginners and helping TTRPGs "click" with them. This is all just role-play and improv skills, and we all get better with teaching and practice.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Genre bending! I really like to step away from medieval high fantasy. If you like sci-fantasy, tech noir, or space Westerns, you're in the right place. If you like sci-fantasy-tech-noir-space-Westerns, you are in the *Right Place*.
