About Lachlan
I've been running RPGs since I was a kid, which means I've been doing this for more than 30 years. I've run games with friends, in organised play events, and at conventions. The nerdiest thing I ever did was run a game of Pathfinder 1 inside the Green Dragon Inn at the Hobbiton movie set in Matamata in New Zealand during a convention. I love RPGs and I love advocating for more people to join this wonderful hobby.

I became a GM because
I was the first one in my circle of friends to discover this hobby. I kept at it through the years because I enjoy it.
I got started GMing...
When I found a red box Basic D&D set at my neighbours' when I was a kid. I was so enamoured with it that they gave it to me as a gift (and they weren't using it anyway). I read the rules and started running games for my friends at school
People are always surprised when I tell them
I'm Australian. My accent is weird and I never sound like I'm from around here no matter where in the world I am.
How Lachlan runs games
First off, I try my best to make everyone feel welcome at my table. From there, I am very adaptable, I try to read the room and give the players what they want and move things along (with player consent) before they start feeling stale.

I deal with rules issues by...
If presented with a rules issue, I usually pick the solution that will keep the game going forward as smoothly as possible. A strong influencing factor on my decision-making is resolving an issue quickly. Followed by commitment to not get caught out by that rules issue the next time.
I once ran a session...
I ran a game of Pathfinder 1 inside the Green Dragon Inn at the Hobbiton movie set in Matamata in New Zealand.
Rules are...
Nice to have a lot of the time - well written rules help people by setting clear expectations and keep things running smoothly. When rules aren't helpful is when they bog / slow down play in minutiae or prevent something really cool. In the interest of flow and hijinks I sometimes bend/ignore them.
Lachlan's ideal table
I would hope that all types of players would find a home at my table. This is a hobby and it's meant to be fun and enjoyable, so I try to keep that kind of vibe with any game I'm running. That said, creating a welcoming and fun environment requires the cooperation of everyone present, so I hope if you join my table you want to join me in these aims.

I am for a vibe that's...
In my experience, this hobby attracts a lot of outsiders and people who have been othered. I think it's a responsibility of the community to be welcoming to everyone who wants to join it. So, I'm very much pro being welcoming.
I love it when a player
Tells me their character's tragic / quirky / sincere / bananas backstory. We're in a hobby that places imagination front and centre and my players' individual stories and head canon are just as important as the one we're collectively telling. Also, they help me place meaningful obstacles!
My perfect party mix is
People who are having fun. I do what I do with the explicit aim of promoting having fun. When people look like they're enjoying my games, it's a huge validation for me.
