About KimPossible

Remember Max from "Where the Wild Things Are"? He's my spirit animal and I design games for all of the Max-identifying people out there. We're chronically over-scheduled, overworked and disconnected. My favorite thing, by far, is reminding people that they once played. That it was wonderful. And showing them, they can feel that again. I want to offer up worlds to those who’ve never played & those who don’t think they have the time and/or patience to play. These players want everything dramatically simplified. They came to play, not to work. This is my forte. My career has been about making corporate change easy and enjoyable. If I can do that for IT programs, I can certainly do that with games. I GM for those that didn’t realize they needed play. ***Got family and/or friends you miss hanging out with? I got you. ***Need something more novel for your date nights than dinner and a movie? I got you. ***Craving social interaction but also from the comfort of your own place? I got you. ***Have a partner who you wish would play RPGs with you? I've got you. I’ve built the process & materials I wish I’d had when I first started playing. And I've refined them by testing, listening to the feedback, & reworking them. Message me a quote that best represents you from "Where the Wild Things Are" for a super secret special custom magic item in your first campaign with me. So, Max...shall we have an adventure?

I became a GM because

I want to be where the wild things are. I wish I'd started playing sooner. I GM because I have worlds that are fun to play in and I love exposing them to the antics of the wild things at my tables. I GM because I think everyone should be playing and I think I have the system that makes it easier.

My favorite books are

Where the Wild Things Are, The Little Prince, Night Circus, Rebecca. I love stories that drop ordinary people into extraordinary situations. You will find a lot of my campaigns are influenced by this,

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

"Petty, Vindictive, Punishing" After offering inspiration for nice words: "Mom" - They mean this nicely, I think. I think you underestimate your talent, dear. Let's see about that. "Surprising" - Don't get too comfortable. "Funny" - Their words, not mine. Funny strange or funny haha? Come find out.

How KimPossible runs games

I'm a dreamer...not a computer tech. I honestly tried. I want to bring cinematic qualities to your virtual game play...but I find the technology is more disruptive than transporting. Ten minutes to fix a problem with the universal flux capacitor is ten minutes without game play. This aggression will not stand, man. So, theater of the mind, mostly, with mood setting music and enough graphics to help you build the picture in your mind's eye. I love when people can do voices. This is not native to me, though I'm working on it. Battles and violent conflicts are layered in where they support an epic narrative. If you're looking for hack and slash, I’m happy to supply the names of my favorite DMs who run those. But there will be battles, sometimes when you least expect it. (Chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...my two weapons are fear and surprise) That's right, when you least expect it, I'll come at you like a spider monkey. At my table you'll find immersive worlds that are designed to change as the characters explore and interact with it. Individual character arcs weave into the overall narrative, giving each character special and meaningful moments. I want you to keep your head in the story. You are more than a stat block to me. Game mechanic complexity will be on my plate, not yours. I will keep the game fair and balanced and keep number crunching & rules monitoring light. There must be rules (it is a game, after all) but we play by Rule of Cool here. You're into Rules Lawyering? You're killing me, Smalls. Leave what's "Under the Hood" to me. (Nice job reading all the way through! You like games, huh? There are five quotes from movies and television in here. Message me with all five and your first TWO sessions of your FIRST campaign with me are on the house.) Gimme some fin...noggin...dude. (Coocoocachoo, dude. This one does not count.)

I once ran a session...

after finding, 15 min. before my session, that I'd lost ALL of my notes. That session was far more tense for me than for my players. The cool thing is that I REALLY invest the time in knowing the full story of every campaign before I even start...no one at my table was the wiser (until I told them).

My games focus on...

Story over battles. I find hack and slash campaigns boring and stressful in turn. As in any truly epic story, there will be frequent narrative driven battles in my campaigns...and when they arise, they will matter because the party will know enough to want to protect their ideals and each other.

Rules are...

important because they frame the game and keep things fair & balanced. HOWEVER, I won't let the "play" at the table become compromised over lengthy discussions over the precise meaning of any particular rule. I lean hard on Rule of Cool and accept the responsibility of ensuring balance at my tables.

KimPossible's ideal table

Be playful and generous...And everything else will fall into place. These games, combat heavy or combat light, are so much more fun to play if you're invested with a group...and I appreciate tables who work to connect with each other. And don't worry too much about the role playing thing. There's really no pressure to perform and I PROMISE, it will begin to come easier to you once you've been a one of my tables a bit.

I love it when a player

Gets excited about an idea. It can be a character trait...a story hook...a moment they can feel is building. I love it when I can see something click for them individually and I work to build on those moments.

My perfect party mix is

I LOVE when I have one or two people who are so invested in role playing that they have voices and everything...and then three or four who think they can't do it...because they can, in their way...and the invested ones somehow give them permission (eventually) to try. It's magic to watch them become

My table is not the place for...

murder hobos and people who are impatient with role play. Relax...it's a game. There's zero pressure to do voices or "act" like your character. I promise you that you'll enjoy those fights more if everyone is not just a battle stat block to you.
