About Hailey

I’ve been a storyteller across mediums, including as a playwright, actor, and novelist-- plus a drama critic and a literary scholar, breaking down stories and figuring out how and why they work the way they do. Over time, this came to feel like an accidentally perfect GMing education. I started playing TTRPGS with D&D, like most people, but was fortunate enough to fall into a local group where I had the opportunity to be introduced to a range of different systems that helped me realise how many amazing possibilities there are out there for collaborative storytelling through games.

How Hailey runs games

In one of my games you can expect to be handed total agency over what happens, and the ability to make impactful choices for the setting within a dynamic world filled with NPCs with their own stories and agendas. I encourage my groups to come together as a party, and my goal is always to foster roleplay and collaboration amongst the characters, because I believe the ensemble play is part of what makes TTRPGs a special and different form of storytelling from a video game or board game. I have a collaborative and improvisational style, and my number one goal is to be responsive to the story that the players bring to the table and the choices the characters made within the world. I enjoy putting together a mechanical challenge and I think a good session includes a nice variety of challenges and play, but roleplay and narrative-first storytelling are definitely my strong suit and I think I have the most to offer to players who prefer that as well. As an escapee from life as a literary scholar, I think the special sauce I bring to my games is a deep understanding of how narratives work. I love choosing the perfect system, or introducing unique hacks, to bring out exactly the type of story you want to tell. You don’t have to be a confident improviser or master of crafting narratives on the spot to tell immersive, engaging, and emotional characters. I love introducing tools and game mechanics to help support anyone, no matter their experience level, to tell a rich, in-depth

My games focus on...

Characters' choices and growth. The most interesting things happen through creative collaboration... with a bit of dice-induced chaos thrown in.

Rules are...

there to support the storytelling. If we don't like the rules, let's find a game with rules we do like.

Hailey's ideal table

I like to play with creative, collaborative players who are interested in having a conversation at the table and contributing to the world-building and storytelling. This doesn't mean we won't have immersive scenes and big feelings! In fact, I think letting you help build the world makes you more engaged and invested in it.

I am for a vibe that's...

collaborative and generous! I love character-based storytelling, but TTRPGs are an ensemble medium, and I want us to be working together as a group and sharing and supporting each other both in and out of character. (Which isn't to say there can't be IC drama, of course...)

I love it when a player

takes me absolutely by surprise.

My table is not the place for...

racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or hate of any kind. It's not for believing that people should just suck it up if they're not having fun, or for judging other people's play styles and preferences.
