About Leland Palmer

Greetings, fellow travelers, my name is Leland and I am a Storyteller and Game Master with experience in TTRPG's, Live Action Role Play and writing. Thanks so much for checking out my profile and considering me to be your GM: whether you are a beginner at sitting down at a TTRPG table, or the most grizzled of veterans pulled in for one more "last job" I look forward to making a memorable experience with you! For me the passion for gaming started back in jr. high, over twenty years ago. I loved how much more immersed and interactive a roleplaying game was compared to the board games and video games I grew up playing. The love for the hobby followed me into university where I created a school sponsored organization celebrating all types of gaming and dedicated to bringing together a community of folks passionate to engage! Since then, I've helped tables as a GM to develop that same community aspect. A place where you don't just show up and leave on time like some 9-5 job, you're here to make memories with some awesome players who love the game as much as you. No matter who you are or what you believe, let's have fun together and see our heroes in exciting action against mighty foes! Can't wait to see you at the table!

I got started GMing...

My best friend's older brother used to run us through "adventures" that inevitably ended in all of us being killed. We were sure if we got the chance to look at the books ourselves and roll our own dice we'd be able to make it all the way through, so we pooled our money together for a PHB

My favorite books are

Realm of the Elderlings - Robin Hobb The First Law Trilogy - Joe Abercrombie The Lies of Locke Lamora - Scott Lynch

My favorite shows/movies are

Twin Peaks (1990) Carnivale (2003) Battlestar Galactica (2004) Jaws (1975) The Crow (1994) High Fidelity (2000)

How Leland Palmer runs games

When running TTRPGs my preference is an organic blend of all pillars of play. However my style is fluid to best mirror the individual group that I have gathered around my table. In addition Some systems are better suited to roleplay, and others to combat, which can make the game we are playing as significant as the group itself. I love storytelling and worldbuilding. I'm very flexible with roleplaying, for example, I do voices, which is fun for me and I enjoy it while encouraging those who want to to do the same; however, I want players to do what is comfortable and enjoyable for them and not to feel pressure either way. When running roleplay, I love in-depth stories. Mysteries, hooks related to character backstories, voice acting, music and ambience. In combat, I love memorable and dramatic moments with players and I describing the actions that take place to enhance the experience. I believe that with most systems, maps and tokens are very important - if not absolutely essential - to maintaining immersion and sense of place in combat and typically hold any kind of Theater of the Mind as a last resort in these circumstances. π‚πŽπŒππ€π“: βš”οΈβš”οΈβš”οΈβš”οΈβš”οΈ (Specializing in high level content!) π‘πŽπ‹π„ππ‹π€π˜: πŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈ (I follow the roleplay wants and needs of the party) π„π—ππ‹πŽπ‘π€π“πˆπŽπ: πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ—ΊοΈπŸ—ΊοΈ (Plenty to see and encounter) 𝐏𝐔𝐙𝐙𝐋𝐄𝐒: πŸ€”πŸ€” (A good puzzle is a nice change of pace) π‹πŽπ‘π„ 𝐃𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐇: πŸ“–πŸ“–πŸ“–πŸ“– (You never have to guess what the important details are and missing small things won't mess things up for you) πŸ“– Story Comes First I run games with real stakes, strange twists, and moments you’ll actually remember. Your choices shape what happens. 🎭 Character-Driven Play I love PCs who feel like people; messy, layered, and full of heart. If your character matters to you, they matter to me. ✨ Tailored to You Whether we’re running a published module or something homebrew, I shape the world around your characters and ideas. 🌍 Collaborative Worldbuilding Your backstory helps define the setting. We’re telling this story together, and your input matters. 🀝 Inclusive and Safe Space My tables are actively welcoming. Queer, trans, neurodivergent, BIPOC, disabled individuals are always invited to the table. No room for hate or β€œjust kidding” bigotry. πŸŽ™ Distinct NPCs and Voices I bring characters to life with voice acting and improv, from creepy weirdos to heartfelt companions. 🌟 Everyone Gets a Moment No spotlight hogging. Every player gets time for cool moves, quiet scenes, and emotional payoff. πŸ‘‹ Beginner Friendly New to the game? I’ve got you. I’ll guide you through the rules, and we’ll learn as we go. πŸ˜‚ Fun Is the Point We’re here to enjoy ourselves. The vibe is creative, chill, and full of β€œwhat if we tried this…” energy. πŸ“š Always Leveling Up I keep up with rules, tools, and storytelling tricks so every session feels fresh and smooth. My greatest strength as a GM is to find things that matter to each player and their character and use those elements to have a direct and lasting impact on the story we tell together. You bring the character, I’ll bring the world. Let’s make something amazing together!

Leland Palmer's ideal table

I believe that I host a table where anyone can enjoy themselves and take part in the shared storytelling experience of a TTRPG with one exception: communication. These games are a cooperative activity, a "team game" and the most important part of any team is understanding each other and being willing to work together. I can host a game where we do not have a single die rolled for multiple sessions, or where we undergo a month straight of dungeon crawl, all tailored to the preferences of the party. All I need is for the players at the table to be open with each other and with me about what they want from the game. Everyone coming to my games should be willing to have fun and talk to one another, and if we can begin from that point everything else about the experience can be worked out along the way.
