About Jacob Stewart (DiceDropbear)
Hey! My name's Jacob, and I've been a fan of tabletop games for almost two decades, initially playing many games of the Powered by the Apocalypse system, before returning to TTRPGs, and D&D specifically, during Covid. I've been a DM since, playing mainly Dungeons and Dragons, and dabbling in others like Daggerheart, Ten Candles, and Candela Obscura! I'm an actor and creative outside of this, and love the collaborative storytelling environment that TTRPG's provide, with everyone bringing their own personal take to every session, character, and story.

My favorite books are
the Inheritance trilogy, the Storied Life of AJ Fikry, the Percy Jackson series, and I've recently gotten into all things Brandon Sanderson.

How Jacob Stewart (DiceDropbear) runs games
While I'm a fan of an Epic power fantasy, I love digging into grounded roleplay and character-driven play. That doesn't mean I'm against a classic hack-and-slash or dungeon crawl though, as long as it's justified by whatever the situation is! Overall, I like to run a game with stakes, where characters have the chance to grow in power and person, and where consequences can be faced and overcome.

My favorite trope is...
the beach day, and the weird little guy. I'm a sucker for the weird little guy, whether it be a Goblin who ends up being roped into the party, or a kobold kleptomaniac, I'm a fan
Rules are...
guidelines, but not the end all be all. I'm always happy to chat about a ruling, and the rule of cool always has a place.
Jacob Stewart (DiceDropbear)'s ideal table
I love a table that's invested in their characters and their stories. I'm not against goofing off every now and then, but I love story and character-driven gameplay, where actions have consequences and everyone wants to keep playing to find out what's next. I'm not a hardline rules guy and am always happy to follow character threads and adjust the future story accordingly.

I love it when a player
invests in their character and their story. Whether it be something mundane like a characters obsession with cutlery, or a deeper thread drawing them on their own journey, I love to dig in and spend time with it.
I think it's a red flag when players...
are determined to win. You can, Sure. Each character's story is important, but it's a collaborative game, not a stand-up stage, and not a therapy session, and 'winning' at the cost of others, at the cost of the game, at the cost of the story, leaves us all in an uncomfortable place.
I think metagaming...
can get in the way of telling a good story. I understand the urge, and there are moments for it, but I quite enjoy when a character doesn't make sense, when character species don't align with their classes, or when a rogue has absolutely no stealth dropped all their points into intimidation.
