About Vynical

I am a tabletop roleplayer with about 8 years in the hobby, sitting comfortably at an intermediate level on both sides of the screen. I’m fascinated by how different systems shape stories, and try to bring a warm, inclusive energy to every table I join or run. As a Game Master, I focus on atmosphere, character drama, and collaborative worldbuilding. I’ve run campaigns and one-shots in World of Darkness, Dungeons & Dragons (mostly 5e), Public Access, and more. I know when to let rules guide the table and when to bend them for a better story. Other than my home systems, I’m deeply system-curious as I’m eager to dive into OSRs, experimental one-pagers, and indie gems. I’m equally happy as a player or GM, and I love helping everyone at the table get their moment to shine.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Mage the Ascension 20th, Blades in the Dark, GURPS

People are always surprised when I tell them

I enjoy sports and physical activities in the same breath as talking about the depths of roleplay collaboration.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Collaborative, Supportive, and Storyteller.

How Vynical runs games

My games try to promote atmosphere and character. I try to build worlds that feel lived in and enable your character’s story. Morally gray NPCs, tough choices and, and room for you to shape the plot. I’m a collaborative GM as worldbuilding isn’t just my job, by asking you questions, your ideas, and trusting you to help define the setting. Rules-wise, I’m fluid but intentional for the system we’re playing, as are tools, but I’ll bend or streamline things when it serves a better story. Safety is a big foundation, as every game I run uses lines and veils, and I check in regularly to make sure everyone feels comfortable taking creative risks. Because I love hopping between systems, my style adapts to the tone of the game, so I can jump from tactical grid combat to a freeform mystery in the next.

I once ran a session...

where, within an hour, my players went from messing around with oddly buff pigeons to one of them watching those same pigeons tear a crow apart and then staring them down.

Rules are...

a structure for TTRPG players to find their footing in the setting and their character. Once they're ready, they can be cast off like training wheels, allowing them to explore cooler ideas and functions outside the standard framework.

When it comes to voices

Feel free to flex your skill, as for me, I try my best, but my range is not extensive.

Vynical's ideal table

The story is a shared, living thing built on collaborative play where your character’s personal history can connect to an overarching narrative. The vibe I try to make is immersive and atmospheric, leaning into horror and mystery, trying to tie a soundscape to the setting. In-character roleplay is encouraged for full engagement with your PC’s fears, flaws, and heroic aspirations. Players who thrive in slow-burning tension that turns into heroism, where victory is hard-won and personal, are encouraged.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you’re into immersion that makes characters feel real, driven story beats, collaborative roleplay that lets you add to the world, and hard-won heroic moments, you’re going to enjoy my table.

I think metagaming...

Is a function of the game as long as it's used appropriately and adds to the table's enjoyment.

My perfect party mix is

one where each player brings a distinct archetype, so every pillar of the game gets its moment to shine. More than just classes, though, when those roles clash just enough in personality to fuel organic drama without derailing the session.
