About Steve Lucido

I've been playing role playing games for over 40 years and I have been a game master for much of those. I have played numerous systems, including every edition of D&D, Call of Cthulhu, PbTA(Monster of the Week, Avatar), Blades in The Dark, TORG Eternity, Fantasy Flight Star Wars RPG's., World of Darkness series, Savage Worlds and many more. I'm fairly comfortable running just about anything.

I got started GMing...

When I was in the Navy. Eager to find a more affordable and more healthy way to spend my off time then bar hopping, I found some guys who used to play, like me in high school and soon became the 'forever DM'.

My favorite books are

1. Max Brooks-World War Z 2.Frank Herbert-Dune 3. Stephen King-The Gunslinger

My favorite system of all Time is

I absolutely love Savage Worlds! It's flexibility , it's combat system, its character development and combination of cards, dice and tokens makes it fun to play and run.

How Steve Lucido runs games

I am a narrative/story first GM. I'm interested in creating a collobarative experience with my players using whatever genre/system we all prefer to tell an interesting story. I like to make sure that there are real stakes and consequences to player actions to create an exciting sense of risk, but not to the extent that I want to punish the players.

Rules are...

...second to Rulings. A good tight ruleset certainly makes a game flow better and fosters a solid foundation, but ultimately its the responsibility of the GM to listen to his players and make the game fun and keep it moving. It's imperative to be flexible and improvise as necessary.

My games focus on...

...the story and the narrative. If I can play a ruleset that fosters that, then so much the better, but utlimately I'm trying to create a memorable story with the help of the characters featuring them as the stars of the show and for everyone's enjoyment.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

I'd like to think the games I run would be directed by Christopher Nolan, but much more often they seem to be directed by James Gunn! :)

Steve Lucido's ideal table

I'd like to think I have a place for just about any kind of player as long as they are respectful and interested in collobaratively telling a story! I am all for moments of laughter brough upon by the organic humor that comes from having a group of nerds sitting around a table telling imaginiary stories, but I want to have some moments of drama in there too and allow each player to share a moment in the spotlight.

I think min/maxing...

I think its a valid style of playing and there are lots of folks who love to crunch the numbers to make the best character build possible, but not if it means sitting in judgement of how other players derive their enjoyment of the game and their characters.

I love it when a player

..takes initiative and takes an active role in moving the story forward by pursuing their character's goals. Nothing makes it more fun and easy to GM then when your players through their characters direct the narrative of the game through personal goals and quests.

I think metagaming...

...really doesn't make sense in TTRPG's. The object is not to 'win'. Its not a competitive game, it is possibly the most collaborative type of game. We are all working together to tell a memorable story that we can fondly recall many years later.
