About BuWeiLong
When I was 10 years old a friend brought his dad's AD&D books over after school and we gave it a shot. He never seemed to want to play again, but I did. I went to "It's Your Move" in Cinderella City to get my own when I discovered TMNT and Other Strangeness. I was hooked. Over the next 30-plus years I have been GMing for friends across many systems, running story- and character-focused games across various systems including Palladium, old World of Darkness, Pathfinder 1e, FFG Star Wars, and now Marvel Multiverse. My goal is to be able to host games for those unable or hesitant to join voice or video chats but still have a desire to play.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...
To answer this question, I asked some of the folks who play in my games. Their answers boiled down to knowledgeable, creative (devious, adaptive), and thoughtful (courteous, helpful, patient, fair). The words in parentheses were variations on the broader qualities used by them for clarity's sake.
How BuWeiLong runs games
Generally, I like to run games with a story with a beginning, middle, and end. NPCs and PCs with goals to attain. With the combat as a tool to move the narrative forward. My one-shots and campaigns are generally constructed using a narrative similar to action movies. The rules of the book come second to what's fun, but I do stick to them in practice. I won't completely rewrite the mechanics to allow characters to accomplish whatever their players want, however, if a player comes up with a unique plan or action that their character is suited for then we'll work out a way to make the mechanics work. Generally, I want some minimal effort to be made to roleplay out an interaction before a social skill is rolled especially in important or stressful situations.

My games focus on...
Fun. In film school, my favorite screenwriting teacher had the maxim, "If you can't be original, be entertaining." Everything else comes second to what maximizes the fun for everyone at the table—even my own storylines and prepwork. If players come up with a fun idea, I'm all in on seeing it out.

Character-driven plot. When I design a campaign, I generally know where the PCs will start the game and where I want them to be at the finale. I design the NPCs I expect to be major factors in that story, and then I navigate with my players from the inciting incident to the story's resolution.
