About Vincent

When I started playing Dungeons and Dragons back in middle school, it was just before 3rd edition came out. Since then, I've been a sucker for all kinds of tabletop games-- D&D, Call of Cthulhu, Kids on Bikes, Shadowrun, White Wolf, and many others-- and it's been my goal to share the coolness of playing make-believe with anyone who will listen. I've been a professional game master since 2015, and have run several full-length campaigns as well as smaller experiences and one-shots. If you're looking to play at a table that's accepting and open, then my table will work well for you! I'm LGBTQI+ friendly, and I think the Combat Wheelchair is radical and cool. I'm in the CET Berlin time zone (UTC+1 or UTC+2 in the case of Daylight Savings)! You can come to one of my existing games, or make a specific custom request!

I got started GMing...

...like most GMs: because my friends wanted to play, and I was the one who volunteered to be their god. I started out as a player and a DM at the same time, but as the wheels of time turned further people came to know me as the standard game master.

My favorite system of all Time is

...Dungeons and Dragons 5e! While my heart belongs to the genres for Shadowrun and Call of Cthulhu, nothing really beats sitting around a table planning the heist at the castle or formulating battle strategies for the dragon we know we're going to have to fight next session.

When I'm not running games I'm...

...teaching English literature at Goethe University or creative writing at the Frankfurt International School! Or, as the case may be, rehearsing for a show or training new circus skills to enhance my abilities. Or reading. I do... just a LOT of reading. It's the PhD student life.

How Vincent runs games

I like to create an environment where the players can explore the story they want to tell with their party. I lean on roleplay often, combat when it's appropriate, and try to keep away from the "letter of the law" style of ruling-- unless, of course, the game we're playing calls for it. I have an enormous catalogue of voices, personalities, and archetypes to pull out in the session, and am careful to make note of anything that might come up later. I especially love tying my players' backstories into the main narrative whenever possible.

I once ran a session...

...where the party was *meant* to have ventured into the elemental plane of fire to visit the City of Brass for a meeting with a planar outsider, but they made enough bad choices on the way that they had to flee from the primordial guardian of the Brass Gates with the Thieves' Guild leader's baby.

My games focus on...

...player experience. If your party is really into crunchy combat, I can run a mean tactical battlefield. If you're more into character work, I have the chops to make it rain social and roleplay interactions. My favourite is to seamlessly mix those extremes together!

Vincent's ideal table

I love a table whose players are engaged with their characters and who are interested in how the world reacts to their actions. After all, the players are also active creators of the world, not just me. I love a table where the vibes are cooperative in terms of making the story good!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Connected storylines, mysteries, leaving no stone unturned, falling in love with NPCs, discovering the world and letting the world discover your characters, devilishly deadly combat encounters, combat that is more than just straightforward fighting-the-guys...

I think metagaming...

...has its time and place. This is the sort of thing we'd discuss during the session zeros, but in general it's up to the table to decide what level of metagaming they will accept. I think it's okay when it's funny, but not when it's just to try to "win" at the game.

My table is not the place for...

...racism, sexism, homophobia, or other discriminatory behaviours. Also, it's not the place for disregarding the experience of others at the table for your own enjoyment-- we're all here to have fun together.
