About Marcus

I am Marcus and I have been playing TTRPGs since my 14th birthday. I was introduced to D&D at an early age but never played the Tabletop version until 3.5e Eberron came out at my local Barnes & Noble. Quickly after that I realized I wanted to play more and create these amazing worlds of adventure and so I signed up to be an official DM on Wizards of the Coast website, and to my surprise I became an official DM. Since then, I have taught and hosted many weekly events, public and private, across the globe. Hosting these events for English speakers in the USA, Germany, France, Romania, Iceland, Greece, and the United Kingdom. These events weren't limited to just D&D, as I have tried and played/GM'd many systems from Call of Cthulhu, BESM, Candela Obscura, Anime 5e, GURPS, D20 Modern, D&D (Advanced through 5.5e), Pathfinder (1&2), Warhammer (Fantasy & 40K), and many boardgames.

People are always surprised when I tell them

I went to college for Dance before joining the military.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Immersive, Inclusive, and Fun.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Working out, walking my dog, cooking, creating something, or working.

How Marcus runs games

I come from a theater and acting background, so I am big into story telling and pulling my players into the world. Actions have consequences and the world is ever evolving. The butterfly effects may not be seen right away and what you do may forever change the outcome of another character or NPC. I like to use voices, music and roleplay to really ground the players into their characters, and then tactical, strategic puzzles and combat that will really test collaboration, cooperation, and skills by the players to overcome the many challenges. I do adapt to what my table wants/needs from a DM. Slower and quieter moments can sometimes be necessary after a few intense episodes or some fast-paced encounters that barely allowed the characters/players to settle into a new environment. Creativity is key, and this is a collaborative experience for everyone. I love to see my players grow and learn about themselves and one another at the table. And by the end, I hope we all have a grand adventure full of memories and stories we will tell for years to come.

I prep by

jamming to music, reading the notes taken on players and the world, and identifying my beats.

My games focus on...

the players having a good time. Not everything will be easy, storylines will be fulfilling, and everyone will have their moments to shine. Teamwork and collaboration are key to success.

Rules are...

mere suggestions. If we cannot decide how the story will naturally go, the rules are there to guide us in the "right" direction.

Marcus's ideal table

People who are about fun and collaborative storytelling will find a place here. No hogging the spotlight, but also be prepared to own your moment. I like to tie in deep back stories into the development of the game. Tie players together in unique ways, and overall don't let the rules get in the way of fun.

I love it when a player

lets another player shine. Passes the moment to let the other person have theirs.

I think it's a red flag when players...

try to call rules or "rule-lawyer" another players actions. Let them be creative and have fun. Let the GM decide what works and doesn't work. We are all grown adults who want to have fun.

My table is not the place for...

toxicity, hatred, negative attitudes, or your own personal biases. If you cannot play well with others, this is not a table for you.
