About the adventure

I’m Dungeon Master Steve. I’m an experienced voice actor and I run games tailored to the backstories, goals and desires of you: An Experienced Roleplayer. You’ve watched Critical Role. You’ve watched Dimension 20. You now crave that narratively driven, character based gameplay where your choices matter and your story is intertwined with the game. You want that deep immersion and I’m going to give it to you. “Ahhh Waterdeep,” you think to yourself as you wander down the bustling clamor of the High Road on your way to the infamous haunt of fellow adventure seekers, the Yawning Portal, “City of Splendours and a truly buzzing, vibrant metropolis where the fame and fortunes of many an adventurer were made… and lost, broken, shattered… but my story will be one of success, great fortune and legendary heroics! I will make a name for myself here.” You saunter past Castle Waterdeep with it’s many soaring pointed towers streaming with long narrow flags, each held captive by the great slouching shadow of the mountain bearing the cities name. As you take in the faint tang of salt from the soothing sea breeze, you just catch sight of the famed inn’s red tiled roof which almost seems ablaze in the setting sun and, clutching the improbable letter in your hand, you wonder: “What the bloody hells does this Volo want with me? What if it’s a trap… it seems far too good to be true.” Another part of you, however, whispers seductively: “But what if this is it? What if this is the first step on your path to fame and glory? It couldn’t hurt to find out, could it? And honestly, what’s the worst that could happen!?” Want to find out?

How to prepare

Players will need a Roll20 and Discord account to play, as well as a decent quality headset/microphone. Video is optional. I recommend players dig deep when it comes to their character backstories and their ties to Waterdeep and it's inhabitants. This really helps with immersion and it gives me the fuel I need to craft something unique and meaningful for your character! I will be providing content consent forms to get a feel for what topics/themes are not to be included in our run of the module and I recommend filling this out before Session 1.

How will character creation work

You and I will work on creating a level 1 character that's both exciting for you to play and suited to the setting and theme of the module in a private voice call. We'll be jumping into Roll20 together to create your interactive character sheet before we get started with the module and I am open and encouraging of all character ideas/backstories etc. If you're familiar with Roll20's character creation then I will happily make you a blank character sheet that you can build yourself!
