I've played with Tim when we were both players in another DM's game and he was a lot of fun as a fellow player, so I signed up for a Stars Without Number one-shot... he's even more fun as a DM. He's got the rules down cold, can think on his feet, and has beautiful narration. Every once in a while things bogged a little too much for a one-shot, but considering it was mostly a new group of players, new to the system and to playing with one another, it was a smashing success. He cut scene to move things along to enable us to experience the whole one-shot.

A really intuitive system, easy to pick up if you've never played a TTRPG, or if, like me, you took a 30 year hiatus from AD&D 1e and 2e until late in the 2014 5e life cycle. The 2024 5e update adds a ton of fun and levels things out a bit. On the whole characters are more powerful in 5e than most previous editions, and 2024 a wee bit more so than 2014. But it is fun, and what by far the most people are playing.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight

A lovely romp through the Feywild. Definitely far more social / political and far less combat than most published modules. I've heard it can be completed with zero combat if that's what a party opts for, but I have a hard time seeing how even a mildly "good" aligned party can avoid combat at a few key points. Still a lovely change of pace and incredibly well written.

A great beginner adventure, really a series of inter-related one shots as you tick things off the job board to gain gold and xp and items to prepare you for the final encounter. More combat than puzzles or social, but still a decent mix, and a wide range of encounter types and settings.

Waterdeep: Dragon Heist

A solid module that has plenty of intrigue and social interaction as well as plenty of combat, particularly with the Alexandrian Remix my DM used to mix things up. It made a great level 1-5 (hit 6 upon completion) campaign that we've now used to launch into an open-world sandbox around the Sword Coast and the North, based out of Waterdeep.
