Every month, StartPlaying Games partners with a charity organization to earn money for a great cause. The platform waives its standard 10% booking fee for these games and matches up to $1000 of proceeds raised by Game Masters. Our professional GMs donate their time and talents, with the money earned from their games going towards the month’s chosen charity. This September will focus on the Malala Fund.
The Malala Fund is a nonprofit organization founded by Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist and Nobel laureate known for advocating girls' education and women's rights. The organization's mission is to ensure 12 years of free, safe, and quality education for every girl around the world. The Malala Fund puts a particular focus on helping girls in marginalized and underprivileged communities.
Players who want to take part just need to look for the Malala Fund symbol on the upper left corner of game listings. This symbol (a blue, tan, and orange flower) lets you know that a game is part of the charity event. Check out this event page for more info and a list of charity games.
GMs who want to help out can run a charity game by checking the "special event" box when scheduling a session. From the drop-down menu, select the "Malala Fund Charity Month” option. StartPlaying does the rest from there, waiving the fee and sending all your proceeds to the charity. Your game can be any system, and at any time during the month of September.
That should be all you need to know. Now get out there, have some fun, and help a great cause in the process!
