Avatar: the Last Airbender is in the midst of a resurgence, and that includes a brand new TTRPG. A currently running Kickstarter aims to get books in players’ hands sometime in early 2022, but you can play now using a free sample set of the rules. Don’t worry if you don’t have a Game Master, we happen to have a few that have mastered all the elements of this new system and can save your world.
The official Avatar TTRPG is called Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game, as it covers more than just Aang’s story. Players will be able to adventure in nations at war with the Fire Nation for sure, but there will also be content released for Korra’s Republic City, Roku’s struggle for peace, and Kyoshi’s epic battles. The Kickstarter raised $1 million in just a day, and at the time of this writing is well over $5 million.
That said, backing a Kickstarter can feel like a risky prospect to some. To ease those wary minds, Avatar Legends creator Magpie Games released a free “quickplay” version of the rules. This includes basic gameplay using the Powered by the Apocalypse framework, pre-generated characters, and an example adventure that sees characters plot a heist in a Fire Nation city. It’s a great way to test if the system is fun for you, and shows that the project is in a good place to fulfill orders when the time comes.
