Daggerheart is the exclusive Role Playing Game from Darrington Press. This is Critical Role’s gaming workshop and publisher. They have released the popular Candela Obscura from there as well. Daggerheart is a 2d12 game focused on one d12 being hope and the other being fear. When you meet a roll you get a hope point (a player advantage) if the hope die was bigger. The GM gets a Fear point (a GM Advantage) if the fear die is bigger. This push and pull yields significant narrative beats as well as mechanical advantages. Any Critter(Critical Role fandom) should be happy to give this a go. If you are looking to find a game here are some places to find a game.
1. StartPlaying Games

The gold standard for finding games to play can be found on StartPlaying Games. Many GMs are already running Critical Role Games. Candela Obscura has many games running on the site. Exandria campaigns (Critical Role and Darrington Presses massive sprawling world and setting) are everywhere running on both Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder. Some intrepid GM’s have been running Daggerheart games throughout the playtest. StartPlaying Games is a searchable database of GM’s running games. Those games run from free games to paid games. You can search by time and by game system. Daggerheart games are readily available.
2. Demiplane

Daggerheart material and sheets are available on Demiplane. Their beautiful character sheets and content compendiums are the best in the business. Their Group finder is easy to use, intuitive, and searchable. The forums are a key place to find games. Their game finder is easy to use and there are always new games. The real benefit of Demiplane is getting easy to use experiences that rival the best character builders in the business. Because Demiplane handles a limited number of games there are people looking to fill those games. Additionally, a lot of StartPlaying Game GM’s use Demiplane.
3. Unoffical Discord

Critical and Darrington Press have a massive following. The Giant Fan Base has huge memberships in Discord, Facebook, and Reddit (all appearing on this list). The Discord for Critical Role features a LFG channel. Daggerheart is a new feature for Critters so it should be noted that there is some resistance to a new game idea. Fandoms of all types struggle with NEW at times. However, for as many people with reservations, there are way more looking to try something different. Head to the Looking for Group (LFG) on the Discord and ask if anyone is running Daggerheart.
4. Roll20

Roll20 has a partnership with Demiplane, but Roll20 is listed as an official partner for Daggerheart as well. The books will be listed on Drivethru RPG in some capacity which is also owned by Roll20. Roll20 features forums and a game search that has a good search by game system in it. Roll20 features a virtual tabletop and pop out character sheets for ease of use, making its integration relatively seemless. Daggerheart Games are searchable in the forums and people are putting together games for this regularly.
5. Foundry VTT: The Forge

If you are looking for an immersive automatic way to play a ttrpg look no further than Foundry Virtual Tabletop. Good GM’s use the basic tools to make the work of playing a game virtually easier. Great Foundry GM’s create immersive experiences. Daggerheart has a number of ways to play. The forums on Forge (a major hosting site for Foundry) offer LFG Postings and DAggerheart is always available. As with many of these sites you are likely to find free and paid listings in LFG forums. A lot of StartPlaying Games GM’s love Foundry and use it regularly. You are likely to find a lot of crossposted games based on the various VTT’s and games the GM’s are likely to use.
Honorable Mentions
As it stands there are a lot more options for larger Intellectual Properties (IP’s) like Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, and of course Critical Role, which is now an IP of its own. Critical Role is popular on all social media sites and there are groups for it and the Daggerheart RPG on FaceBook which is a solid place to look for games. Additionally, RPG.net and EN World have a lot of posts and information for players looking for all things Critical Role. I’m a big believer in the path of least resistance to finding a game. StartPlaying Games often meets that requirement. While the search functions of these other sites are helpful, SPG’s goal is to match players with games they want on the VTT they want as often as possible. Daggerheart is a huge undertaking for Critical Role and game excitement is high. It should be easy to find a game using any one of these options.
Adam McDivitt is a father of 3 boys, professional GM, and a full time therapist. His love of D&D was reignited when his son asked him to help with a game 4 years ago. Since then he has learned a number of new systems and fell in love with TTRPG systems outside of 5e. Follow him on bluesky gmadam.bsky.social he posts there sometimes.
