About the adventure
You begin this campaign dead. You may have died together, or alone in different places and times. When the story opens, a mysterious force known as the Vagrant intervenes before your souls can pass on, making a rare and deliberate choice to return you to life. You awaken on the platform of a ghostly train station, breath in your lungs once more, a ticket pressed into your hand. Moments later, you board the Ghostlight Express, a spectral train that ferries souls through the mists of death toward the afterlife. Through fog, silence, and half-remembered dreams, the Ghostlight Express delivers you to Wickermoor Hollow, a sealed valley where night never truly ends and the dead refuse to stay buried. When you disembark, the train is gone, and whatever brought you back has no intention of rescuing you again. From there, this campaign is about: • What it means to be given a second life you didn’t ask for • Surviving in a land shaped by sin, superstition, and old bargains • Choosing who you become after death has already claimed you once Victory is possible—but never clean. Some souls cannot be saved. Some evils demand sacrifice. And hope, when it appears, is fragile and costly. Please note: This game will be live-streamed on Twitch and YouTube so that you can go back and review the sessions as you like. It is not required that you show your face on Stream, but I do enjoy seeing your reactions while we play.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Matt here! I fell in love with tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) playing Dungeons & Dragons in 1989. I was eight years old, over at my friend's house, and their older brother ran the game. Though the game only lasted three weeks, I was hooked on the story, world-building, and absolute joy of the game. However, I couldn't find anyone to run e-games or be a Game Master. So, I accepted that role and turned as many friends I could into players, then began turning any players I could find into friends. My first love is the story and characters, and combat keeps it interesting. For a long time, a company called White Wolf made my favorite games. I ran those for years and gave up on D&D because most people I found at the time liked the rules more than the story, and I could never find people who enjoyed both. Then, Critical Role brought everyone out of the woodwork! After watching their streams along with Relics and Rarities, I started to explore D&D games again. And I couldn't be happier about this! About a year ago, I started making steps to turn my 30 years of experience and passion for D&D into a full-time, sustainable career. In one year, I found terrific players and, by the grace of God, have been able to become a full-time storyteller in the TTRPG space. See you at the table! I hope you will join the games and make amazing friends as we battle and work through fantasy life together.

Creating your character
We will review character creation at session 0. Come to the meeting with ideas, not a full character. We will be doing standard array stats. Characters will be created on D&D Beyond. After joining the campaign, you will be able to access the Crooked Moon sourcebook on D&D Beyond. The D&D 2024 Player's Handbook and Crooked Moon content are what we will be using for character creation, with other sources available upon approval.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a Discord and D&D Beyond account to play. In addition, you will make a free account on the streaming platform we use.
What Matt brings to the table
I run immersive, character-first campaigns with a strong focus on roleplay, atmosphere, and meaningful consequence. Expect distinct NPC voices, curated ambient music and soundscapes, and a living world that responds to your choices. Combat is purposeful rather than constant: deadly when it happens, cinematic when it matters, and always tied to the story. I prioritize narrative logic and emotional payoff, using the rules to support tension and fairness while embracing the Rule of Cool when it elevates the moment. This table is collaborative, respectful, and intentional. I build long-term arcs around your characters, use safety tools thoughtfully, and aim to create a stable group where everyone feels invested and heard.
Homebrew rules
For this setting, we will be using the following: All Must Sleep. While in Druskenvald, characters who don’t need to sleep during Long Rests in other realms must sleep to stave off Exhaustion, though they can still resist magic that might put them to sleep, if able. Creeping Dark. Characters who benefit from Darkvision find this trait suppressed, though magic that grants Darkvision such as from a spell or magic item still functions. This does not affect monsters or NPCs.
