About me
I’m pretty sure my love of immersive storytelling and Dungeons & Dragons began the moment I picked up my first Choose Your Own Adventure book in third grade. I was one of those “Talented and Gifted” kids of the late ’80s and early ’90s (we’d call it neurodivergent now), and let’s just say... sitting still wasn’t my strength (hello, undiagnosed ADHD). While most teachers didn’t know what to do with me, my third-grade teacher—bless her—sent me to the library instead of the office. After filing books and learning the Dewey Decimal System, I’d sneak off to the reading corner and dive into every adventure I could get my hands on. I didn’t just read those books—I explored every possible outcome, and something inside me came alive. Fast-forward to my 30s (yep, my 30s), when my partner introduced me to Dungeons & Dragons. My brain went click and then boom—and I’ve been hooked ever since. After over a decade as a player, I’m now stepping into the role of Dungeon Master, offering play-by-post games that are welcoming, patient, and perfect for beginners—or seasoned players curious about a slower, story-rich format. Whether you're diving in solo or bringing a friend (real or imaginary), I’ll guide you through the game at your pace. Creating your character
Character creation happens in Session 0, where we’ll work together to craft a character that feels at home in Strixhaven. You don’t need to have a character ready beforehand—whether you're new or experienced, I’m happy to guide you through the process. This world is full of opportunities for creativity, so you can come in with a rough idea, or we can build something entirely unique. And for those more experienced with character creation, feel free to bring a fully fleshed-out PC! We'll start at level 1, but feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss other starting options. Stats can be rolled (3 sets, pick 1) or use point buy/standard array. We’ll be playing on D&D Beyond using the 2024 ruleset, though legacy material is welcome when 2024 doesn’t offer what you're looking for—just check with me first. The character’s journey will be unique, and there are very few restrictions as budding wizards are transported into Strixhaven’s halls through magical portals. Your character could come from anywhere, and anything is possible. In this campaign, story and character come first. I’ll help you connect your background with the magic and mystery of Strixhaven, whether your character is a gifted prodigy, an outsider with a secret, or someone just beginning to realize the depths of their power. Your character will not just belong to the world—they will shape it.

Before we begin, please make sure you have the following: A Discord account -- game communication happens there. A D&D Beyond account -- we’ll use it for character creation and sheets. That’s it! You’re welcome to start brainstorming character ideas ahead of Session 0, but there’s no need to have anything finalized. I’ll be there to help shape your concept or tie it into the world during our first session.
What Moss brings to the table
This is a play-by-post game, with activity typically Monday through Friday. Players can expect a mix of group quests and personalized story arcs tailored to your character—play-by-post allows us to dive deep into the secrets, side plots, and character development in ways that live games can’t, making each moment feel intimate and personal. I embrace the Rule of Cool outside of combat to keep things fun and cinematic, but will switch to Rules as Written during combat for clarity and fairness. This allows us to maintain both the excitement of creative roleplay and the structure needed for tactical moments. Expect a story-rich game set in Strixhaven, full of magical intrigue, academic chaos, and spicy personal moments. This is a world where romance, rivalry, and dark secrets will guide your every decision. I love weaving your personal backstory into the larger narrative, ensuring your character has a place in this enchanted, chaotic academy—and a reason to navigate the trials that come with it.

During Session 0, we’ll have an open discussion about boundaries, comfort levels, and use tools like Lines, Veils, and safe words to ensure everyone feels respected and empowered. Although Strixhaven is an exciting, magical world, it can still explore darker, more intense themes. There may be emotional harm, manipulation, or unsettling situations—but we will clearly define what is off-limits and what can fade-to-black. Your fun and comfort are my top priorities—consent is crucial, and in this campaign, it’s sacred. Secrets and hidden motives will be central to your character’s journey, and occasionally there may be twists or betrayals. However, these will never be done in a way that undermines your safety or trust. I will always check in privately before involving you in sensitive material or plot turns. This is a collaborative story, and we’re here to build something powerful and enjoyable together, ensuring everyone’s experience is both exciting and safe.
