The Syndicate
When following the law doesn't guarantee justice, freedom, or even life, are you're willing to put your life on the line to make the world better?
About the adventure
You have recently been granted membership to a group known only as The Syndicate. They're an underground organization that does everything from espionage, to assassination, to what you've been brought in for: Theft. You and your colleagues, who you may or may not know, are brought together to meet in an unassuming roadside inn and tavern to plan for, and execute, a heist for the Syndicate. Your contact is one Mr. Hugh M. Noide, and with his sparse guidance, you'll pull off the job. Just don't get caught. This is a game for 1-5 players ranging from levels 1-11utilizing Keys from the Golden Vault, among other sources, presented as one shots, but at a groups request can branch into a more distinct story. This is intended to be episodic west marches style game centering around various heists and stealth missions.
Meet the Game Master
About me
I've been a Professional Game Master since 2018, and I've been running games since 2009, with the majority of my games being in Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition. I specialize in custom settings and stories, and I want to give each player the game experience they're looking for! Let's make some stories together we'll be talking about for years to come.

Hello, I wish I could've clicked all of the tags! Jason is an INCREDIBLE GM. Not only is the setting and story thoroughly set up and prepped, it's engaging and captivating. He does a great job of immersing you in the story with tone, ambiance, and really cool voices! The gameplay runs smoothly, too. You can tell he has a firm grasp on the rules, and he cares about your characters + overall experience. I said: "Can my cross boomerang be almost as big as a person, for the flavor?" And he said: "Yes, absolutely." Love to see it! Rule of Cool forreal! We asked for a bit of a challenge with combat, and he delivered! I'm having so much fun with this campaign and would love, love, love to play another game with Jason. As a bonus side note: Jason was SUPER helpful in helping us set up our characters in Roll20. I'd only ever used it for maps, so there was a bit of a learning curve. Wouldn't have been able to do it without his help, and it was super appreciated! TLDR: Jason runs an amazing and engaging game, and he cares about the story and your characters! 10/10 would recommend!
First off, I wish I could have been able to click a few more tags. TLDR: Awesome game and awesome game master. Good for all experience levels. Creative and fun while also organized and knowledgeable. Had an AMAZING time. This was my first time using Start Playing. I will be honest I was very nervous about this whole thing, jumping in with a random GM and random players. This experience could not have turned out better. Besides having a creative setting, Jason is an excellent story teller. He set the mood, told a a fun story, allowed it to be a collaborative process when it needed to be, and did an exemplary job of making sure all of his players had a good time. It was a safe environment, a organized session (with amazing prep and pre-involvement from all players), and just fun, which is my main objective. As I told Jason when we ended the session, I look forward to gaming with him again at some point.
The world-building as well as the openness to both roleplaying and combat allows the party to truly shine! While some fights seem harder than others, the feeling of getting through such tough battles allows one to feel as though one truly succeeded in the face of danger. I highly recommend him to any beginner 5e players or even veterans looking for a fun and exciting adventure!
Jason is a caring DM that provides entire worlds of content and characters for his players, and goes above and beyond when it comes to time and adjustment to make sure they're having a great time. He makes for a wonderful experience and the foundations of roleplayer communities even beyond his direct sessions, and I would recommend him to almost anyone looking to get into tabletops.
Character creation
Creating your character
I'll give you a link to the Roll20 game, and set up a sheet for you to input all the data for your character. If you need help, let me know before the game and I'll work out a time to sit down with you and help you through character creation. If you like, I have pre-generated characters I can give you access to.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a computer and browser to run roll20 in, a mic to speak on discord with, to create a character in roll20 or ask for a pre-generated one, and your own stellar self ready to enjoy a game.
What Jason brings to the table
My sparkling personality, all the NPC's, maps if we need them, and hopefully plenty of fond memories for you to leave with.
Homebrew rules
At my table, in the 5e D&D system, drinking a potion as an action grants you the full potential amount, and drinking it as a bonus action gets you the roll. I.E. as an action you would gain 10 HP but as a bonus action you would roll 2d4+2. For critical hits we follow a similar rule: When you hit a critical you gain the full potential amount of your attack and roll the damage for a second die's worth. I.E. if you're attacking with a battle axe you'd get 12 + your strength modifier and then roll 1d12 for the second die. Warlocks may be either Charisma or Intelligence Casters. Monks may add their proficiency and Wisdom modifiers to their Ki pool at level 5. Sorcerers may add their proficiency and Charisma Modifiers to their Sorcery points at level 8.

How Jason creates a safe table
The first 10 to 20 minutes of the session will be going over people's boundaries, as well as giving a basic tutorial on how roll20 works for anyone unfamiliar with it. Afterward we'll be using roll20 for the purpose of keeping track of characters tokens and rolls. If you're new to the game entirely, don't worry, I'll work with you to ensure you have a pleasant experience.
