About the adventure

The party was commissioned by the royal wizard, Xurek, to partake in a quest to save the Kingdom of Vinosea. During the quest, the party learned that Xurek himself had been behind a plot to control the crown. His ultimate goal is to perform a ritual to which will give him the power of the God of Shadows by consuming the lives of all the people in Cardinham. The players now return to stop Xurek, on the day of his would-be ascension, even as more people arrive in town for the annual harvest festival. Xurek no doubt has control over the queen, her guardsmen, and bodyguards. He must not complete his ritual at sunset. This is a one-shot adventure, open to anyone new to Dungeon World. It is a little unserious at times, aiming it's humour at those familiar with the tropes of Fantasy RPGs.

About me

I am a narrative GM with a deep appreciation for the craft of a great adventure. I've been into tabletop RPGs for a very long time, and have been happily in the GM role for most of that time. Over the years I have explored the indie/storygame scene and even ran a podcast on the subject for a while. I've recently delved into the world of OSR and gained an appreciation for it as well. Having run games at many conventions, I have gotten quite good at teaching new players and managing issues that come up at the table. To the latter, I believe that takes several different skills: setting ground rules and expectations before the game, gently guiding the group when a small problem comes up, and being able to step in firmly if necessary. I believe my greatest strength as a GM is having a wide array of tools from many game design philosophies that I can apply, and the experience to know the strengths and limitations of them. I like to fit the game to the players, as every group will have their own version of what is the most fun for them. My favourite games to run are those where the players are pursuing those things that interest them the most in the world. Nothing makes me more happy as a GM than players who have their own goals and plans that I can craft a story around. This lets us run games focused on the characters and their stories. Together we explore who the characters are, and how they change throughout the game.

It was a lot of fun; It wasn't at all what I expected, but in a good way!

Larry was an awesome GM! He did an awesome job of helping all of us get into our roles. The concept for the campaign was straightforward and simple enough that any character could fit the scenario giving us a lot of wiggle room with our characters, and yet also fun and engaging enough that we constantly found ourselves immersed and having fun solving puzzles, fighting baddies, and taking risks! Wonderful DM for beginners and veterans, far exceeded any of my hopes and expectations and will be having him back again! Our whole group for our one shot started as strangers and ended as friends thanks to Larry and his awesome story!

I'm not great at reviews, so TL/DR here: Lawrence was fantastic. 10/10 would jump to play anything he DM's. Lawrence was great at enabling players to shine, setting the stage, building interesting rooms, and keeping the players on track. He built the maps himself, and they were very interesting maps with opportunities for exploration (and to make mistakes) with fun rewards for the players. He was happy to aid players in building characters if needed and unflappable whenever things didn't go ideally.

Myself and the other players had a great game experience! It was fun, engaging, moved along well and had a nicely developed storyline. The challenges seemed well matched to the player capabilities. Everyone got to be involved. I would gladly play again with this DM.

Character creation
Creating your character

I will provide links to character sheets. Creation is quick in Dungeon World, taking about 5-10 minutes. The rules are very simple to learn, and I will walk you through everything you need to know. Dungeon World does not require a VTT, and we can run this game over voice chat.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You don't need to do much - at most, have an idea of what types of character your are interested in: (Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Paladin, Rogue, Wizard)

What Larry brings to the table

Digital versions of character sheets and handouts will be provided. Most of this game does not require anything more than talking, so that will be what much of the game will look like.
