About the adventure

Begin as captives of the drow and plot your escape into the unforgiving and hostile Underdark, explore and survive as you visit iconic locations and unearth secrets not meant for the mortal realm. This campaign will use the module Out Of The Abyss as its framework but will have several homebrew deviations to create a more adaptable experience based on player feedback and to create a more fluid narrative that player choice can guide.

About me

Hi! I'm a comedian and nerd that loves to play Dungeons & Dragons. I tour across the country DMing a live comedy game featuring comedians as players. I love big and dynamic games where players get to have fun and enjoy their time laughing and having a great experience.

Cavin did an awesome job this first session I attended, immersing us into the setting and made it fun for everyone.

I had a wonderful time playing briefly in Cavin's adventure, he was very helpful in moving the game along and keeping it interesting. He showed wonderful patients with me and ensured all were included in the game. Unfortunately, due to changes in real life I was unable to play at the required time and had too unfortunately withdraw from the game. I wish Cavin all the best and would recommend his games to anyone.

Cavin was great! He knew the material, quickly responded to improvisations when I did something weird and that fit the material (apologies to the half orc half frog, I am SO SO Sorry!) Dudes chill, knowledgeable, and rolls with it and that's a good DM in my book. Plus he asked about triggers beforehand so I could be assured there weren't any spiders 😅

Cavin was a great game master! It was our first session as a group in quite some time and he did a great job helping us with rules we forgot while keeping the session on track and moving forward. He went above and beyond with voice work and allowed for some creative role play for the group when it aligned with the “rule of cool.” Hiring Cavin is a great option for those new to DnD or veterans who have a hard time deciding who will DM the upcoming session.

Cavin's extremely agile! Our group certainly gave him some curve balls, but he handled them with humor and quick thinking. He seems to want to make sure the players are getting to be the kinds of heroes they want to be. And, bless him, when we got off on a tangent (which we often did), he engaged enough to honor the humor of the moment, but also gently steered us back into action. Well done!

I have been playing ttrpg for 27 years and Cavin is by far one of the best Game masters I've come across. He puts alot of thought and effort into every game. Includes soundboards and visuals. Very inclusive and great for beginning players l. He's ran games for my 13yo twice and she loves him

Character creation
Creating your character

Players will create a level one character using Standard Array in the custom campaign provided. Some tweaks to backstory and conversation around your preferred character arc may occur before or during the session zero. Please do not refer to the Out Of The Abyss module when making a character. If you are unfamiliar or would like help creating your character, we can do that during the session zero. Players will use the 2024 Player's Handbook for creating their level 1 character.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Players will need a mic (webcam preferred but not required). A D&D Beyond account (Free is fine) as well as a discord account are also required. This campaign is beginner friendly, so you are not required to know all of, or even any, of the rules of D&D 5E, as I am happy to help work with you to learn the system.

What Cavin Eggleston brings to the table

We will use D&D Beyond and D&D Beyond Maps to create our characters and as a VTT. Content will be shared via a custom campaign on D&D Beyond. We will use discord for communicating and will also use OBS to share graphics and music with players as the game is played. I greatly value player creativity and approach most games with a Rule of Cool mentality that encourages unique approaches to the game. I especially believe in mixing evocative descriptions and storytelling with player guided decisions and love to create improv'd scenarios and experiences based on player feedback and interest.

Safety
How Cavin Eggleston creates a safe table

Out Of The Abyss deals with mature themes and elements of survival horror. To help make for a fun and enjoyable experience while engaging with these mature themes, a survey and session zero before the campaign begins will occur. These will be useful in setting expectations and boundaries for players and the game master. We will also use an X,N, and O system during play to help make sure in the moment decisions and player experience is at the forefront during events in the plot as not everyone may know what they are comfortable with before the session or before an event occurs.
