March of the Dead (Rewritten + Leveled Up!)

Pathfinder 2e | Campaign

About the adventure

Councilwoman Agrit Staginsdar requested to meet in the House of Wonder, her shop in Trunau. The aptly named business specializes in magical items, its shelves chock full of simmering potions and elixirs. Upon answering the door, Agrit, a dwarven wizard, leads the way to a table in the back, at which she sits and pours herself a steaming cup of tea. “After a bandit raid some years ago, my friend Jacra Hillwren moved away from Trunau. We’d shared a passion for all things arcane, so I was sad to see her leave. Eventually, she settled in Fiorna’s Faith, a small village just outside the border of what was once Lastwall. Though Lastwall fell during the Whispering Tyrant’s rebirth, it seemed like Fiorna’s Faith managed to avoid becoming part of the Gravelands. Or so we all thought.” She sets her mug down and brings forth a small parchment. “Jacra and I still correspond via her raven familiar, Coal— mostly personal letters and theories about magic. But then, last week, Coal arrived at my window with nothing in its talons but this single scrap of blood-stained parchment. I’ve not heard anything since, nor has anyone else.” She spreads the parchment out on her table. It reads: “I must be brief. Something terrible is happening in Fiorna’s Faith. Folk have been disappearing and I fear that I’m ne—” Here the missive is torn. --------- "March of the Dead" is a short, one-volume adventure where the heroes are sent to investigate the settlement of Fiorna's Faith after a concerning letter was sent out from it by messenger bird. Said heroes quickly realize, though, that there is far more going on in the small town that anybody had initially assumed, and they are soon fighting off hordes of undead summoned by cultists following the most feared lich in all of Golarion! "March of the Dead" is an adventure for level 8 heroes (if that surprises you, check below!) that involves investigating the ruins of Fiorna's Faith, fortifying a building and defending yourself from waves of zombies and skeletons, and finally hunting down and exterminating the source of the undead! You best be ready, for they most certainly are... --------- Please note: I have rewritten to shore up this adventure in the places that I felt as if it could have been designed better. In addition, I have leveled the adventure up from its default of level 3, in order to make the adventure more exciting for more experienced players - and for myself, as well!

Additional details

How to prepare

Players should ensure that they have a relatively functional microphone, along with a relatively quiet place within which to play the game with us. They will also need a relatively modern computer and browser in order to connect to my personal Foundry server. Players should have their characters ready by the first session. This is not a learning adventure, so I do expect players to have a reasonable grasp of the system and its rules.

What I provide

I will bring hand-crafted, remade maps for the "March of the Dead" module, courtesy of Indielink. I will bring a large library of premium music and sounds in order to heighten the atmosphere of horror. I will bring years of writing, acting, and teaching experience to enhance my performance as a GM. I will also bring an obsessive love of all things horror, an experience of hundreds of horror films, books, stories, podcasts, and everything else that you can imagine, in order to draw on it all in order to craft as terrifying of a horror experience as I can.

Gameplay details

"March of the Dead" - as a survival horror story in the same vein as Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark, and Dead Space - is a campaign with a particularly high amount of disturbing content, and I cannot reiterate that enough. I do not want to go into the specifics too much, as many of the content warnings would also be spoilers, but if you find yourself triggered by the average survival horror game, then you will likely find yourself triggered by this campaign. I will use informal safety tools but with a heavy emphasis that I am open and willing to talk about any issues that arise, and I will do my best to foster a safe and comfortable environment where people can easily do such. I will always show up before and remain after for at least 10 minutes every session in order that everyone has a chance to talk to me or other players about the game as needed. I will make myself available outside of the regular session hours as needed in order to handle any questions or other issues brought up by my players.

How will character creation work

Characters will start at level 3, and can reach level 6 before the end of the adventure. Character creation will involve the following Variant Rules: - Ancestry Paragon - Free Archetype - Gradual Ability Boost Please see the following page for an explanation of these rules. I can also help to explain them to players as needed. https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=1297 I recommend using Pathbuilder to plan your characters, and I will manually import characters into Foundry by myself when presented with a player's Pathbuilder sheet. https://pathbuilder2e.com/app.html I can help players build, level, and develop their characters out of session during "office hours", and am willing to set up individual, one-on-one meetings to help facilitate this.
