METRO OTHERSCAPE - Learn To Play

METRO OTHERSCAPE - Learn To Play

:Otherscape | One-Shot

About the adventure

In the not-so-distant future, 2075 to be exact, due to the incessant Noise of technology and post-modern life, humanity has become so numb and apathetic that spirits of myth and legend, once constrained to the shadows, can now roam the world freely.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Do not let the somewhat minimalist set-up fool you, Jason is a skilled GM and storyteller. Even without one of the populair VVT but only using bots and discord, he is able to paint a compelling scene. With his ability to adjust on the fly, he embraces player creativity and the unexpected. Aditionally, he is patient with new players and willing to change things up if things do not work.

I recently completed the Shadowrun tutorial with Jason and couldn’t be more impressed! In the tutorial we arranged, he covered all the essential mechanics of the game (deckers) in a way that is engaging and easy to understand. As someone new to the Shadowrun 6e universe, I found the step-by-step guidance incredibly helpful.

I did a one-shot "learn to play" for City of Mist with Jason. He explained the game well, had a good adventure ready for us, and I had a great time playing. Recommended!

From the moment I signed up for Jason's Daggerheart play-test, I knew I was in for something special. Jason's passion for the game and his dedication to creating an engaging and immersive experience were evident right from the start. Preparation and Communication: Jason's pre-game communication was top-notch. He provided all necessary materials well in advance, including a detailed overview of the Daggerheart system, a custom character creation worksheet, and a beautifully crafted world primer. His willingness to answer questions and provide clarifications made the onboarding process smooth and enjoyable. Session Experience: Jason's storytelling skills are nothing short of exceptional. He has a knack for weaving intricate plots with rich, multi-dimensional characters that instantly drew me into his home-brew world he created to use the Daggerheart system. His descriptions and art were vivid, making it easy to visualize the settings and actions, which greatly enhanced the overall immersion. Gameplay and Mechanics: As a play-test, Daggerheart has its quirks, but Jason handled them with the finesse of a seasoned GM. He was knowledgeable about the rules and adaptable, ensuring that the game flowed smoothly even when we encountered the occasional hiccup. His ability to balance combat, role-playing, and exploration kept the sessions dynamic and exciting. He was even able to get a contact, who built a custom multiplayer dice roller for the game. Player Engagement: One of Jason's greatest strengths is his ability to engage and involve all players. He made sure everyone had their moment in the spotlight and tailored the story to incorporate our characters' backgrounds and motivations. His encouragement and positive feedback created a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel comfortable and confident in contributing to the story. Even though my session numbers have fallen to two in number, Jason is still the complete professional. Creativity and Flexibility: Jason's creativity shone through in every aspect of the game. He introduced unique challenges and unexpected twists that kept us on our toes. Moreover, his flexibility in adapting the story based on our actions and decisions made the game feel truly collaborative and player-driven. Final Thoughts: Playing in Jason's Daggerheart play-test has been an incredibly rewarding experience. His exceptional GMing skills, combined with his deep understanding of the game system and his ability to create an engaging and inclusive environment, made each session a highlight of my week. I highly recommend joining one of Jason's games if you have the chance. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to table top RPGs, you're guaranteed an unforgettable adventure. If there was any justice, there would be a waiting list to get on one of his tables. Thank you, Jason, for an amazing Daggerheart play-test. I can't wait to see where our journey takes us next!

Great GM.. Each session was a treat with lots of fun and unexpected moment. He allowed the characters to develop and rewarded player input so we felt like we were playing characters rather than bundles of numbers. The game was inventive and fun.

How to prepare

I run my GAMES using Metro Otherscape ruleset and you can find the FREE Quickstart for this system on there Website, Players will need a MIC and WEBCAM as well as a DISCORD account (which is FREE).

What I provide

almost all PDF's produced by Son Of Oak the creators of CITY OF MIST RPG, Digital Art, Hand Drawn Art and digital maps and content as the situation requires, I have a lot of PDFs and ARTWORK.

Gameplay details

This Game contains elements of HORROR, Demons and supernatural themes it also contains pseudo-religious elements with visceral combat description notes suitable for the faint of heart, this of course is tempered against comedic moments that always creep into most games. Blood and Gore are commonplace, SAFETY TOOL: In my games, the most important safety tool for your use is the Discord private message feature. I personally have been DMing weekly using DISCORD since 2016. That’s quite a lot of hours gaming and so far PM the GM seems to work. also, note I use an Open Door policy so that anyone can leave or take a break from the game for their own safety and well-being without being judged. All that is required is to do is DM me just to say you need a TIME-OUT. and if there are any Big Issues that can be talked through in an honest and respectful manner between myself and the player. For my games, they go for 3 to 4 hours so having a short built-in break about halfway through is essential and is recommended to allow people to stay focused or for other needs like getting food/drink during this time. I award bonus Attention just for having your camera on during the session, because seeing each other's smiles, eye rolls, laughter and goofy faces is all part of the experience, and make it pretty close to the feeling of us all being together. However, since some people are shy, it's definitely not required.
