About the adventure
The mists arrive without warning. One moment you're somewhere familiar, and then you're standing on a road you don't recognise, in a valley sealed off from the world you knew. That's how Barovia takes you. And leaving isn't as simple as walking back the way you came. Curse of Strahd is D&D's most celebrated horror campaign — a dark, open world of vampire lords, haunted villages, restless spirits, and generations of buried secrets. What sets it apart from most D&D is that there's no clear path forward. You arrive with no map and no instructions, and the choices you make about where to go, who to trust, and what to risk are what shape the story. There's a village where people survive by keeping their heads down. A mansion full of family history someone clearly wanted forgotten. Ancient ruins scattered through a wilderness that does its best to kill you. And at the top of the valley, Castle Ravenloft — where the lord of this land has been watching your every move since you arrived. All the while you must contend with the whims of Strahd who is less the boss at the end of a dungeon and instead an active and intelligent presence throughout; patient, dangerous, and with centuries of experience. He has plans for your party. Give him time, and he'll carry them out. At my table, this adventure gets the treatment it deserves. I'm Wayne; a professional DM, actor, and the founder of Bardic Quest on YouTube. I've run over 700 games on StartPlaying, including enough horror campaigns to earn the Master of Horror badge. I know Curse of Strahd well, and I love running it. My NPCs are designed to be distinct with a life behind them. The music shifts with every scene. Foundry VTT brings the world to life with custom maps, animated backdrops, and premium artwork to help to bring the horror to life. This works best for players who enjoy roleplay as much as combat, like piecing together a mystery at their own pace, and don't mind being genuinely unsettled sometimes. All experience levels welcome, and pre-made characters are available if you'd rather not build from scratch.

View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Characters should be made using options from the 2024 Player's Handbook. Additional character options can also be used from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft only. Character creation will take place as part of Session 0 (or a one-to-one character creation before your first session if joining later in the campaign) so there’s no pressure to know how to create a character beforehand! And if you like, there are ✨pre-made characters available✨ for you to use if you don't want to have to worry about character creation. Characters will start at level 1 with character options shared with you via D&D Beyond. Stats will be generated via either the standard array or by rolling for them with the group.
