About me

Greetings and well met! I'm Deirdre, long-time nerd and proud of it! I've been playing RPGs since Moldvay D&D circa 1981, and almost exclusively a GM since 1988! D&D was always my go-to, but I cut my teeth as well on "Star Frontiers," "Top Secret," "Villains and Vigilantes," and anything I could get my poor and grubby hands on. But always, I seemed to be the friend in the group that had to be the one running the games -- correction: the one facilitating the story we're all creating! RPGs in my estimation, are shared stories to be crafted by all participants! Even when it's a game like "Paranoia" when the GM IS *actually* out to get you, the game is a cooperative effort in seeing where a story goes. Throughout the early 2000s, I was a "Bounty Hunter" for AEG and went from local hobby stores to GenCon running games for AEG, like "Spycraft" and "Stargate," promoting those products with true love in my heart! But truth be told, I started not caring much for d20 and what it was becoming.... I've always preferred TTRPGs that had more free-form, role-play, storytelling, world-building elements to it! I eventually glommed onto "Fading Suns," "Call of Cthulhu," "Eclipse Phase," and "Savage Worlds." The pandemic opened up my love for indie and solo-heavy RPGs like "Ironsworn" and "Broken Shores" and "Cairn." As well as the world of VTTs and online gaming! And now, I lean more toward OSR-style systems like "MoRK BORG," "Pirate Borg," and Shadowdark." I'm something of a writer with several short stories (published by _other_ people, if that matters *grin*) and self-published stories and a SF novel. Otherwise, I'm a big ol' goof finding her way in her new forever-home of the Pacific Northwest, picking up crabbing, collecting prepper shtuff and things, Squishmallows (don't judge me), and finding a newfound obsession with Minecraft! (BTW: My reviews do refer to "Liam" and "he" because I'm recently out trans woman -- normally not important, but just to explain the reviews.)

Deirdre ran a hella fun game! With all players new to the system, she went through the rules and character creation with clarity, helping us being set up in record time. When the game started it was clear from the beginning that she had a solid grasp of the rules, and a clear vision of the adventure. She allowed for player creativity to shine through, making the world alive with well acted npcs, cool cinematic actions, and great descriptions. If you want to try Pirate Borg (or any other game she might run), I can't recommend her enough. You will definitely have a great time!

This was my first time playing with Deirdre and my first time playing Pirate Borg. She took us through the character creation, taking the time to answer all our questions and making the whole process fun. The adventure itself was also good fun, with Deirdre setting the scene and doing a range of voices of main NPCs (and background characters), making everything seem alive and funny. If we wanted to do something dumb she'd find a way to make it happen thematically and practically. I'd play in her games again.

I've played in several of Liam's campaigns and one-shots, and have found him to build immersive worlds that he has crafted with love and care. Liam is always willing to go with the flow of player/character creativity and although he is well-studied in the rules, he isn't one to sacrifice story for ruleset, or engaging and exciting character moments for RAW. If you're wanting a fun, fast-paced, cinematic game (in whatever system) where you know the GM is going to be looking out for you as a player and who is going to be Gming WITH the players rather than AGAINST the players...then check out one of Liam's games!

had a good time in my first mork borg game, don't know how much I like mork borg as a game but she is creating a pretty cool and interesting world so I'll stick with it

She's a great GM who creates an immersive atmosphere at the table, but also is a smidge too fast-paced for my liking

This GM is incredibly good at building robust worlds full of realistic people and scenarios, it feels like the whole place is alive and real! While I don't have experience with many of her shortform games, her long games she's very careful about weaving every PC into the story in satisfying and equal ways, making sure nobody feels left out of the action. Just as well, no matter the complexity of the backstory, she's somehow able to weave them into the worlds she crafts with ease and a sense of masterful control over the story she's helping build. All in all, if you want a creative, immersive experience with descriptions that make you fall in love with the setting, this is the GM for you!

Character creation
Creating your character

Characters will be created as a group, GM-led, during the first 20-40 minutes of the game using the standard "Pirate Borg" process, charts and options, and character sheets (provided in game). Prior knowledge of character creation or options will not be necessary!

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Players are expected to have a working mic and headset and be able to connect to Discord audio channels. They will also need to be able to log into Roll20 games. LINKS to the channel and game will be provided before the game starts. Rules knowledge is NOT necessary! Simple familiarity with what exactly PIRATE BOG is, its setting and tone would be helpful, but not necessary!

What Deirdre Ceridwen brings to the table

I'll provide the VTT (Roll20) and the audio/chat medium (Discord). I'll provide the rules, tokens, art and maps, character sheets (all on the VTT).

However, there will be absolutely NO sexual assault or queerphobic/transphobic content or behavior depicted or allowed.
