About the adventure

Among the stars of Realmspace, Cadets learn the skills they need to become a Spelljammer! Few, however, learn the skills required to save a planet! In the first part of this campaign, you will be a new Cadet at the Spelljamming Academy on Toril! Here you will learn everything you need to become an officer on board a Spelljamming vessel and unravel a mystery that may change the fate of the academy forever! In the second part of this campaign, your skills will be put to the test as Toril faces a world-ending threat that will send you on a journey across the astral plane to different galaxies full of adventure and danger! Don't worry if you've never played D&D and gone to the reaches of wildspace, This game is beginner friendly and work as a great introduction to not just Spelljamming, but Dungeons and Dragons as a whole!

About me

Hello, Hello! I'm Michael, an experienced Game Master from Australia with a passion for unforgettable adventures. Over the years, I've run games for events like Supernova and Avcon, and I was a fixture in my local game store's Adventurers League. I love meeting new people and weaving epic tales. My games are a unique blend of deadly tactical combat and immersive roleplay sprinkled with plenty of shenanigans. My primary aim is to create a world and story that can truly immerse you as both a player and character, presenting you with encounters designed to both enable you to shine and be challenged. I can't wait to roll the dice with you and share some fantastic adventures!

Character creation

Creating your character

You are welcome to make your character prior to the first session, but characters can also be made as part of session 0. (Material Inclusion): All official Wizard of the Coast books are allowed (no partnered or 3rd party content without checking with me first). We will be using the 2024 rules, which means wherever possible, use the latest version of any races, spells, classes, subclasses, feats etc. *Be sure to untick legacy, homebrew, and partnered content on D&D Beyond (Character Level): The Adventure will begin at level 1, however if you are joining the campaign in progress the parties current level will be on the adventure page. (Stat Allocation): Use either the standard array or point buy Methods for allocating your stats. (Background Options): All backgrounds are available. If your background doesn't already grant you a feat, you can choose an origin feat to go with your background.

The current party

Current Party (Level 3) - Goliath Fighter (Bosun) - Dragonborn Paladin (First Mate) - Elf Druid (Navigator) - Githyanki Cleric (Quartermaster)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

(Communication) Make sure you have at least a microphone. I would recommend a webcam, though it isn't essential. (Accounts) Make sure you have a Roll 20 Account, as it will be used for battle maps, a D&D Beyond account for character creation, and a Discord Account, as that is how we will be communicating. The extension 'Beyond 20' for your browser is free and very useful for using D&D Beyond and Roll 20 together. (Character) If you choose to prepare your character ahead of time, make sure to create it through the D&D Beyond Link provided. If you need help with character creation, be sure to reach out to me, as I'm happy to help and answer any questions you may have or troubleshoot any technical issues with you. (Tokens) Generic Class and number tokens will be available; however, if you would like to use any custom tokens for your character and/or summons, be sure to provide them at least 15 minutes before the session starts.

What Michael brings to the table

I will be providing a campaign link with all the content on D&D Beyond, a roll 20 campaign complete with Maps and NPCs, music during the session, and a community discord server with its own private category just for members of this campaign.

Homebrew rules

I play mostly rules as written with a few homebrew rules that can be found here: https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/UGDILIvMSwld For this campaign, I have also revamped spelljamming as I find the version in the books to be quite lacklustre, especially when it comes to space combat. Those rules can be found here: https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/d99qfIyZPcpA

Safety

How Michael creates a safe table

(Safety Tools) Before your first session in the campaign, I will organise a private session 0 with you. During this session 0, we will make sure you are a good fit for the table, discuss the safety tools in use, set expectations for play, ensure your programs and software are working well, and finally, help you build your character and get to know their story to help integrate it into the campaign. If at any point a topic comes up that makes you feel uncomfortable, there will be tools in place for you to privately message me and the offending content will be skipped, no questions asked. There will be a short scheduled break about halfway through the session. This will be a good opportunity to go to the bathroom, have a quick snack or a drink, or message me about any concerns you may not have felt comfortable bringing up in the moment.
