Masks: A World Without Supers! A Beginner's Play by Post Game!
Supers are a memory, outlawed or buried. Now, you have powers. Will you hide or risk everything to show the world what kind of hero you are.
About the adventure
Brought to you by the Warlock Sanctum Collaboration. You were a normal high-school kid just like everyone else. All you had to think about was your social standing amongst your peers, keeping up with your family's expectations, and preparing for college or starting a career. Everything changed the day you learned you and your friends have super powers! Now, you are a high-school kid with epic abilities who needs to keep it all together so no one discovers your amazing superhero persona! — Break from the status quo! Realize your true potential as a young super hero! — Build your reputation as a hero or villain in a city which had nearly forgotten about Supers! — Protect your secret identity at all costs! — Face challenging decisions as we explore your character's storyline! Our story begins when Superheroes are becoming a fading memory to the people of Halcyon City. A couple museums are dedicated to their past heroic efforts, but no one has seen a Superhero for decades. Halcyon City is now under the protection of The Three: One of the last veteran Superheroes: The Pacifier, an AI mainframe: The Whisper Machine, and Commander Vroot: the leader of an alien race called the Vrutt. Will you be able to handle the pressure of high school AND becoming a superhero?! We will learn by playing! The Masks system and play-by-post format will all be taught as we play.

About me
I am a partner, dad, and storyteller and my goal is to always be improving my skills in those critical roles of my life. Storytelling has become a passion of mine because I love watching my children discover life lessons from stories we tell and games we play. I hope to share this passion with you in the stories we craft together. As your GM, player-focused gaming is my primary goal. Creative roleplay, fun puzzles and collaborative gameplay take the forefront in the systems I like to run. My NPCs will be quirky, strange, and interesting as the world reacts to your characters. Players can expect a timeline or storyline will loosely guide us as your characters change the setting around them. Ultimately, player decisions will reroute and change how our story resolves as we play through mini-arcs. Theater of the mind mini-series and Play by post (PBP) are my preferred spaces to tell stories. I explore different TTRPG systems constantly for new and creative ways to bring better storytelling to my players. I look forward to exploring your character and story elements you bring to the our next game. My only rules are to be Safe and be Kind. From there, we can have a world of fun with some amazing TTRPGs!

I play in Collin's Blades in the Dark play-by-post game. Collin runs one of the best play-by-post games I have been in and he has figured out a way to do it well. I've enjoyed his writing and characterization as well and the mechanics have been altered to blend much better with this written format. As a player, I'm encouraged to build upon the world and it feels like a genuine collaborative experience with GM and players taking a fair part in it. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you're looking for a game that has an asynchronous flow.
I've been doing Play by Post for years due to an unpredictable work schedule. It is a difficult format and I really struggled to find a fulfilling game. Until I joined Collin's table. He has an uncanny knack for keeping the game flowing, maintaining a high level of player engagement and building a collaborative and intriguing story. His writing is evocative and thought-provoking, so that you always feel like you have something worthy to add to the narrative. For anyone considering Play-by-Post, I highly recommend joining one of Collin's games.
Collin is a excellent pbp storyteller. I'm just not capable of keeping up with a pbp game right now since they require you to be "always on", which is why I dropped out. With recent life changes I'm just not able to dedicate as much attention and energy as a pbp requires. But if you're looking for a pbp storyteller, you basically can't do better than Collin! He's very good at listening to his players and working everyone into play. His scene and mood setting are top notch. Highly recommend.
I was completely new to pbp as well as Blades, intimidated as all hell, and not at all certain what I was getting myself into when I agreed to join a friend heading into one of Collin's campaigns. My hesitance was completely unfounded; he was kind, welcoming, and patient. He did a one-on-one tutorial session with me so that I could get a feel for the format and the world before I jumped in with the rest of the crew, and he went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. Every hairbrained idea I had, he found a way to incorporate into the narrative; somehow, he made it all work. His storytelling is superb, and he was able to keep things going at a decent pace. I very much appreciated his ability to weave in twists and turns to add to the crew-driven shenanigans. Time and health willing, I'd love to join in another one of Collin's games!
I've played in a couple text/play-by-post games with Collin, including a duet game, and my experience has been nothing but positive. He's great at setting a scene and building a mood (extra important in a text game), as well as at keeping the momentum of the game flowing over the course of the week. He also creates memorable NPCs and presents what feels like a living world, built through the players' actions. I should also mention that he's excellent for beginners--he's willing to host a one-on-one tutorial with a new player to familiarize them with the game and PBP format, while also playing out the events that lead the character to join the party. All in all, awesome GM! Definitely worth your money.
Character creation
Creating your character
To get started crafting your character we can use: 1. The Character Builder Tutorial: This is my collaborative character creation process where players bring their favorite character traits and we will build your character sheet around how you want to play. 2. A pre-built character: If you are already familiar with Masks, you can use the available playbooks and resources to craft your character right away. 3. GM provided pre-built characters are available for players who are eager to jump in to the action!
Asynchronous play by post. Generally, players post once per day or more during a Mission and then Downtime between each mission is slower. Saturdays are the GMs day off. Players are not charged until they join their first mission. “Inactive” players can miss 2 (two) missions before being asked to give up their seat for the next mission. Inactive and unresponsive players will be charged for 1 week to hold their seat as life happens. If I do not hear from a player in over a week to 10 days, they will lose their seat.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Access to a free discord account is all you need for play by post! No video/audio needed. I will teach the basics to start playing quickly. Players will be charged the game fee when their character starts the next mission, not during their character preparation or introduction to the group.
What Collin brings to the table
I bring the world of Halcyon City and its citizenry to life! You will experience the balancing act of being a young super-powered person living a dual life. Prepare to navigate story-changing decisions and interact with quirky NPCs!

How Collin creates a safe table
Safety Tools: Player onboarding will include an individual session 0 to ask questions and establish Lines and Veils. GM will have regular check-ins with players via an out of character channel and through discord direct messaging. Lines and veils will be a living document players can reference. Gameplay: - Players will have more agency over the story than typical D&D games. Narrative flashbacks, teamwork, and adding to the world building will be highly encouraged. - I will on occasion introduce side quests to further explore character building in 2-player mini-missions separate from the main storyline. - Players should lead with narrative actions first rather than limit themselves by their character abilities or stats. "How would my character accomplish this goal?" instead of "What skills/spells/abilities limits are available to accomplish this goal?"
