Solar Sonata: A D&D Deep Space Adventure
Set sail for adventure, charging into Wildspace and beyond. Explore the Astral Sea and face off against empires in this quirky fantasy space opera.
About the adventure
Normal life would never be the same again. Not since the flying ship came to rest in the middle of your humble place of origin. A man calling himself Crispin and his pet, an unusually large hamster sitting on his shoulder, addressed your entire town, looking for someone to join his crew and explore the worlds "beyond the stars." While most looked at him like a crazy man and kept their distance, you found his offer intriguing for one reason or another. So despite (or perhaps because of) your bonds and ties on this world, you accept a position on his ship, and set sail for locations and concepts you've never even dreamed of. Explore Wildspace and the Astral Sea in this space opera set in the furthest reaches of the D&D universe. Visit planets both canon and homebrew as you lead a nearly ageless life aboard a ship owned by an eccentric rich man and his crew of explorers. Welcoming to new and experienced players alike. Almost everyone's first D&D experience takes place on the Sword Coast - wouldn't you want your first adventure to be in space? Solar Sonata utilizes flavor and mechanics from Spelljammer: Adventures in Space. Some elements of Light of Xaryxis are used in addition to ample homebrew content to create a unique adventure that can be approached from a variety of ways.

Meet the Game Master
About me
The number one rule of tabletop RPGs is simple: "Everyone should be having fun." That philosophy guides every game I run. Whether it’s diving into epic battles, solving mysteries, or roleplaying your heart out, my goal is to ensure we’re all enjoying the adventure together. So let’s roll some dice and make it happen! As a narratively-focused GM, I specialize in crafting worlds that respond to player backstories. I love creating memorable NPCs, engaging missions, and opportunities for character-driven storytelling. Collaboration is key: I’m always excited to work with players to weave their characters into the fabric of the world and develop arcs that will be talked about long after the final session. I also love my special effects - I edit loops of music for optional background use, create custom tokens, and utilize scenes, maps, and animation to help draw players into the story. Most of my games contain slightly less combat than is the average, but I'm more than happy to bring the game to fisticuffs more often if that's what the players enjoy. When I’m not running games, I’m reading books, watching videos, or otherwise expanding my knowledge of TTRPGs to keep evolving my style. My sessions are organically planned, focusing on story and player agency. While combat isn’t always guaranteed, I’m happy to adjust its frequency to fit the group’s preferences. A TTRPG isn’t defined by its Game Master — it’s defined by the collaboration of everyone playing, GM included. The world we create is ours to shape together. So, grab your dice, bring your imagination, and let’s tell the next unforgettable story in gaming!

Gear is a solid 5/5. He is very personable. He is very good with new players, helping them understand game mechanics and allowing everyone to shine in their own way. He leverages his extensive nerdy background to build worlds that are both familiar and exciting that will keep you invested.
Gear is one of the most accommodating and easy-going DMs I've ever played with. He was a fantastic choice for bringing my teen kids on their first adventure and is able and willing to work around their busy schedule and build a fantasy world for them to play in. Gear has set the standard for me of what a DM should be.
My time on this campaign was a lot of fun and the dungeon master gear always made sure that everybody felt included and that they had a voice on how the adventure was going. Anybody interested in joining a campaign? I would highly recommend this DM and his campaigns.

What Gear brings to the table
Virtual Tabletop: Quest Portal Character Creation: D&D Beyond Communication: Discord server Some Quest Portal scenes will contain ambient music. This feature can be disabled by the player if they wish. Rule of Cool tends to rule around here, but the rules themselves are important, too. But creativity is rewarded, so you can abide by the rules but still outshine and prove. Humor is great, too! Let's build a bizarre world together.
Homebrew rules
I have modified (and continue to modify) the spacefaring combat rules because D&D's don't make that much sense. Players are welcome to contribute ideas as well to make the swashbuckling all the more exciting and immersive.
