About the adventure
[👥Pre-made Character Sheets Available!👥] You are not heroes. At least, you weren't. Not before, not where you came from. No, you were the ones nobody gave a second look to: losers, geeks, flunkies, deadbeats, and good-for-nothings. But after being swept away into the Distant Lands, thrust into the role of heroes and last hopes, your new destiny becomes clear: Defeat the Mad Wizard and find your way home or die trying! Reign of the Mad Wizard is both a love letter to and a soft parody of several genres and pieces of 90s and 2000s pop culture, all wrapped up in Shadowdark's award-winning formula. All experience levels are welcome, but don't expect a typical campaign experience! Combat: ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️▪️ A good portion of our campaign will be battling the figments that terrorize the lands. My philosophy with encounters is to shine the spotlight on each player and make combat smooth, entertaining, and thrilling! Exploration:🔎🔎🔎🔎▪️▪️ I enjoy letting the table look around and soak up the atmosphere of an area, letting the environment carry the brunt of world-building and storytelling. You are exploring a world with a history, after all! Puzzles: 🧩🧩🧩▪️▪️ Think less "hit four switches in the right order" and more "solve a problem without stabbing it." Not every issue can be overcome in the same way, and thinking outside the box is rewarded. Travel: 🚶♂️➡️🚶♂️➡️▪️▪️▪️ This is a hex crawl, meaning you will travel long distances between locations. However, travel will likely never take up very much time in a session, as I like to cover point A to B scenes in broad strokes. Roleplay: 🎭🎭🎭🎭▪️ Relationships and interactions between characters matter! Even if it's something simple, there will be plenty of chances to get into character and build a story together! Some challenges will only be solvable through social interaction. Comedy: 😆😆😆😆▪️ We keep things lighthearted at the table, enjoying the clever and sometimes hilarious interactions we create between PCs and NPCs alike. Mad Wizard is particularly bursting with silly throwbacks and characters. Come ready to have fun! Rockin' Tunes: 💿💿💿💿▪️ Music will be a big part of this campaign! Each player will choose a 'killer track' to define their character. Battles will feature lots of kickin' rock music from the early 2000s and prior! 【PbP Adventures】 This campaign also has Play by Post adventure options, which charge a flat rate for the week. I can guarantee several detailed daily responses that allow you to progress on your adventure at your own pace! Music will still be provided per scene! ★Solo PbP options available!

I'm originally from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, but I currently live in Tokyo, Japan. I speak English and Japanese, and a little bit of Mandarin. I'm a writer, animator, artist, conlanger, worldbuilder, and GM (as you can probably tell)! Creating your character
Character creation at level 0 will consist of your starting stats and defining your archetype in the real world. Each character starts with a unique talent that matches that archetype. Once you hit level 1, you will be able to choose an official Shadowdark class, albeit with a unique pop-culture flavor or twist.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Having a discord account and solid internet connection/browser is the most important thing :) If you aren't familiar with the Shadowdark rules or have never played before, I can provide you with the free quickstart PDFs to look over prior to the game.
What Keilan brings to the table
I will bring the virtual tabletop, music, character sheets, and the character creation tools! My biggest goal is to foster a fun and engaging game for ALL players, giving each character a chance to shine and recording memories from each session to look back on. The rule of cool often takes precedence over rules-as-written, especially if you give me an irresistibly creative suggestion!
