On a whim, I decided to spend a Friday afternoon in one of Jacob's one-shot adventures. As a pro DM myself, I tend to have high expectations and Jacob did NOT disappoint. A masterful storyteller, Jacob gave us a wonderfully varied cast of NPCs to interact with, gorgeous battlemaps, and exciting encounters that really made us think. I was new to AboveVTT as were some of the other players, and Jacob taught us to use the interface quickly and efficiently. When I'm looking for a one-shot in the future and schedules align, I'm looking for one of Jacob's games first. If I had bandwidth for a campaign I'd consider joining as well.
What is the most important tool in a GM's toolbox? Enthusiasm. Give me an enthusiastic GM over any other type of GM. Eddie has enthusiasm in spades. Some of other strengths include excellent pacing, deep creativity, and a solid grasp of the rules system. Whether you're looking for a GM to help you learn D&D or whether you're an old-time D&D veteran like me, you can't go wrong choosing Eddie as your GM.
I've had the chance to play in several of Darrin's games over the years, and he is absolutely one of my favorite DMs. I think what sets Darrin apart from other DMs in my mind is his love of setting Lore. If you're playing in Ravenloft, for example, it always FEELS like Ravenloft. He has an amazing talent for immersing his players into the setting. Play with Darrin every chance you get!
Viper is a great DM. I say that without reservation. If you haven’t played with him yet, you should make it a point to do so. His Monday night Choose-Your-Own-Adventure drop-in series is a great compromise when you can’t necessarily commit to a weekly game but want some continuity from one session to the next. So far, they’ve all been very episodic, making it easy for someone to drop in or out. I like the extra things Viper does for his players, like making tokens and artwork, too.
