Sphinx is the epitome of gamemaster and professional DM. While Sphinx is obviously well versed and completely knows the game systems and VTTs that he uses, what sets Sphinx apart from his peers is his non-technical skillset. Your choices matter. These three words are what players want from a roleplaying game, and Sphinx delivers on that goal and then some. From the initial DM/player interview before your first session, Sphinx is crafting an adventure custom tailored to both player and player character. He does this through player surveys, player feedback, paying attention to character backgrounds and choices, extensive NPC interactions with characters, developing cannon from character actions, and encouraging player / PC journals outside game time. The end result is a game that grabs the attention of all players and keeps them 100% invested and focused on the game, a feat that's near impossible with online gaming. Sphinx allows the characters to dictate the action and direction of the game. Again, sounds quite simple, but many DMs struggle with allowing the game to detour from the published or projected story. Sphinx embraces the uniqueness of the player characters, allows them to shine when spotlighted, and adjusts the adventure outcomes based upon the player character actions, not what the boxed text says should happen. Lastly, many players in the post Podcast age expect gamemasters to be professional voice actors. In this light, Sphinx does not disappoint. When he cannot organically reproduce the voice of certain NPCs or villains, Sphinx will use sound boards and voice modulation to provide an enjoyable experience to those needing the immersion. Overall, I highly recommend Sphinx as your next DM, and I look forward to many games with him in the future.
I've been in more than one DM Dan game and it's been a pleasurable experience all around. DM Dan seems to have a photographic memory of the D&D 5e game system. He is extremely knowledgeable about the updates, latest book releases and all the class, subclass, spells and species variations. In addition, he uses the D&D Beyond homebrew option to open up additional PC choices published by third-party content creators. DM Dan is very well prepared before each game. Foundry has been his VTT of choice, and it's evident DM Dan is on top of all features and content creators related to Foundry. His expert use of Foundry --- and ability to quickly guide players within the VTT -- certainly elevates the game play aesthetics. The most impressive skill I see used by DM Dan is his ability to let player characters decide the actions and outcomes of the game. No matter how hair-brained or off-the-wall a PC's idea or actions might be, DM Dan can quickly respond and adjudicate the actions at the table, letting the players and player characters shine when warranted.
