I played through the Drakkenheim campaign with Chance, and as a first time DM of that campaign, I felt he did a great job of bringing the world to life and portraying the 5 factions. He handled the personal quests of each character that are part of that campaign well, melding them into the overarching narrative and finding good times to insert them into the game and focus on each of us to achieve them in an organic manner. He knows the rules and tends to be more on the RAW side, is fair with his rulings and arbitrates well with the table, but he will also allow some rule of cool in the moment. He allows minor character "adjustments" if desired to ensure the player is maximizing there enjoyment. With an open world/open ended campaign like Drakkenheim, he worked to keep the campaign moving along and not get bogged down, though there were a couple of times I felt we pushed on to the next objective without as much "down-time" or opportunity to explore or track down side-objectives as I would have liked at times. Nothing major, but something I remember thinking a time or two.
Squint ran a one-shot session with me and my two teenager daughters for Father's Day and provided us with a great experience. One loves the fantasy genre but had never played D&D before and wanted to learn, and the other played some in school but never online. Squint closed the one-shot to just us 3 voluntarily when he learned this was a father's day activity for us, and held a pre-session meeting with me to make sure he understood the ground rules for the game with my girls. I really appreciated this special care he took to make sure we had a good experience. On game day, he was very patient explaining the tools to all of us and the game to my girls. He provided some interesting characters with their own voices and really pulled me into the story - I was really invested in what was going with the Moonlight Goddess shrine. He has music involved and really helped to set the mood. Our game ran longer than advertised, and he never seemed impatient for tried to rush it along. Overall, I would recommend him to others in a similar situation and I would certainly play in more games with him if things lined up.
I played a one-shot session with Kris (Wriz) and I was very impressed with how fleshed out and "in-character" he was with over half a dozen NPCs in this simple one-shot game. I was really drawn in and really enjoyed the experience. Being a one-shot, I played a class I have never played before and he was patient as I figured out the cool stuff I had as well as learning DnD Beyond and Roll 20. I can absolutely say I can recommend him as a DM for any of your games since I am signed up with him for a campaign starting next week. Already, he has setup a Discord server where all the players are talking to each other in advance, and has private channels to work back-story or other player only business and is very engaged with both the group and individually working on backstory ideas and hooks to sprinkle throughout the campaign. I'm very excited to see what he has in store and will write another review after playing in the campaign for a number of weeks and have a larger sample set of his DM skills. So far I'm impressed and super pumped! UPDATE: We've been playing in the campaign for about 6 months now, and Kris is definitely a DM I recommend to play with. He weaves character backstories into the campaign unobtrusively, and has a good mix of combat and roleplay. He definitely does create memorable NPCs with voices and mannerisms, and his combats are fun and he knows tactics for the enemies. He roots for the players and when we come up with whacky ideas, he embraces it and roots for it to work even if it messes up his plans. We have fun laughs each session.
I've been playing with Chris for several months now in a campaign of his own making and have enjoyed and look forward to my game each and every week. He has crafted an interesting world where past events hundreds of years ago have become legends and vague memories but are becoming relevant again and the party needs to unravel the past to understand what is coming. The game includes city politics with different factions and our party has been thrust into the center of it when a key NPC was killed helping us (still not sure if this was "scripted" or him tap dancing to an unfortunate turn - something I plan to ask him when the campaign ends!). Sessions include both role-play/story heavy ones and combat/dungeon crawls and is a nice mix. Chris is very good with beginners both to the online tools and the game itself and is very knowledgeable about the rules. We all have a good time and many laughs whether his is kicking our butts or we are kicking his. I would highly recommend checking out any of his games and when this campaign ends, I will be considering his games when I look for what's next.
