The three words my players would use to describe me are...
"Inventive. Entertaining. Cinematic" "... I'm always excited to play because I know it will be cool." "Knowledgeable. Fair. Passionate. [YerHost] wants to make every moment part of a good campaign." "Experienced. Dramatic. Epic. The 'noobs' and 'veterans' both had as much fun and could keep up.
How YerHost runs games
I run games with a strong narrative core, blending cinema-style storytelling (I use Dan Harmon's story circle) with collaborative improvisation. My filmmaking background shapes how I frame scenes: clear emotional stakes, meaningful choices, and tension that rises naturally from the group's actions. When you make a decision, it matters! I prioritize player agency, character development, and world responsiveness. The world moves with you (or maybe against you) while villains have motives, locations feel alive, and even the NPCs have depth. Players always have the spotlight, the story revolves around your characters and their interactions. Roleplaying, exploration, collaboration, and feedback is HIGHLY encouraged and will reveal a plot rich world filled with mysteries, lore, and consequences that tie back to your own character's backstory, NPCs, decisions, and previous player characters (I love a good cameo appearance). Pacing is very important to me to keep players engaged and entertained while also keeping the story moving along. Therefor, my combat scenes are always related to the story. I don't do random encounters, but I do afford plenty of room for player choices and creativity. Combat is fair yet tactical, a balance between challenging problem solving, high-stakes suspense, motivated consequences, memorable entertainment and heroic moments. Most importantly, I adapt the experience to your table's style. Whether you love roleplay, strategy, collaborative storytelling, crunchy combat, mind-bending puzzles... or whatever you're into, I want each of you to have the best time playing together.
YerHost's ideal table
Everyone is welcome at the table. It's not MY table. It's OUR table. Players should come understanding and respecting this first. This sentiment goes a long way to ensure everyone has fun. Players who will thrive at our table are those who are open and respectful to others, and understand that this is a game for entertainment. Being an actor certainly is not a requirement, but I recommend viewing game sessions from an improv perspective. I welcome intelligent and/or creative players who understand the balances between comedic timing and dramatic beats, rules and the story, characters and the ensemble. In other words... support the scene, don't steal it. Support your fellow players, yourself, and enjoy a game of collaborative storytelling together.
