About Walid
Hello! My name is Walid, I have been playing TTRPGs for 10 years now, and GMing for almost as long. I started back in 2015, when a french actual play called "Aventures" caught my eye and made me want to try out TTRPGS, and I've been hooked ever since. I've played a lot of indie systems, as well as most mastodons of the hobby. I've had periods where most of my playtime was doing one shots with a different system every week, and other times I've been pretty much focused on long-term campaigns with all the ups and downs they entail. I've been passionate about storytelling for pretty much all my life. Before I was playing TTRPGs, I loved writing stories, dreaming them up, imagining ups and downs, worldbuilding, it's always been my jam. Doing it collaboratively is one of the most wonderful things I can imagine! Knowing when to push in during funny moments, pulling back to let the narrative breathe, putting emphasis on dramatic moments, those are all dynamics that are extremely fun for me to play with. Outside of TTRPGs, I study philosophy and political science in Montréal, I love video games and cinema, I have a wonderful cat which I love to show off to the camera, I have a very healthy obsession with organizing things on excel spreadsheets, and I enjoy reading in my free time. Excited to be able to play with you!

How Walid runs games
My focus is always, first and foremost, telling a story. I consider RPG systems to be just the bones that allow me to graft flesh and muscle and organs, everything that allows me to tell a story. I like to So obviously, I'm someone who's focused on roleplay! I get involved in character's choices, I try to tailor things to people's backstories and most essentially I am very open about letting players dictate where the story goes. I rarely push anyone in specific directions or playstyles, and instead work with people to figure out what they want out of my games. Like everyone, I enjoy combat, but I enjoy it most when the stakes have been well-established, and that usually happens through roleplay with me!

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
I'd say a healthy mix of Hayao Miyazaki, Wes Anderson and Edgar Wright.
My favorite trope is...
I can't resist a good floating city... It's engrained in my brain, I can't get it out!
Rules are...
The framework that allows us to tell a story, but never the focus of the game.
Walid's ideal table
My tables thrive when they're filled with people who are interested in telling a story with everyone else at the table! I love creative players who want to drive the story forward, and who like shining the spotlight on everyone else at the table. In brief, I enjoy a table who is open-minded, enjoys collaboration, and has a spirit for creativity, improvisation and fun!

I am for a vibe that's...
I am for a vibe that knows when to adapt! Like every story, TTRPGs are a balance between highs and lows, charged moments and lighthearted ones. My favorite thing is to see a table gets hushed during a dramatic moment, and to see everyone laughing when the tension can finally be released.
I love it when a player
I love it when a player gets excited for other characters at the table! I find it so enjoyable when everyone at the table is invested in everyone else's characters, because it makes it easier for everyone to set up cool character moments!
I think min/maxing...
I feel min/maxing has its place when it's discussed during Session 0, and when it isn't a player's sole focus. Having a powerful character is cool and min/maxing helps with that! It only crosses the line when it disrupts the game, either by hindering other player's enjoyment or the GM's preparation.
