About Bryson (VP Breesone)

Hi! I'm a long-time player of D&D 5e on both sides of the screen, but have recently begun branching out into other tabletop RPGs. I'm a voice actor, musician, writer, and all-around foolish dreamer looking to tell the greatest stories ever told. I became a GM because I believe that I was put on this planet to tell stories. It doesn't matter where those stories come from, I believe that every story deserves to be told, and with a little bit of help, I believe those stories can become the stuff of legends.

I became a GM because

I've always considered myself a storyteller. I've been writing stories of my own from a young age and I've also been a stage/voice actor for most of my life. When I found out about TTRPGs, I saw it as a perfect way for me to tell stories in collaboration with others.

My favorite books are

Dune, The Rangers Apprentice series, Mickey 7, Gaunt's Ghosts, and Ready Player One just to name a few.

My favorite shows/movies are

Andor, Rango, Adventure Time, Invincible, The Legend of Vox Machina.

How Bryson (VP Breesone) runs games

I generally play with a heavy emphasis on worldbuilding and use copious amounts of character voices and sound effects, but my first priority is to tell a story that everyone will enjoy. You want an intense combat experience? I'll give you plenty of opportunities to test your might. You want political intrigue? The threads have been laid. You want to experience the existential terror of knowing there are beings far older than time that are watching your every move and would love nothing more than to see you descend into madness? ...Oddly specific, but there's plenty of that in play. A lot of my games also take place in a connected world I've been building up for the past several years. If that sort of thing isn't your style, however, I'm more than willing to try something new!

I once ran a session...

The players had to get past a military camp to enter an ancient temple. The barbarian snuck into the nearby jungle and wrangled a t-rex, riding it into the camp to cause chaos. Meanwhile, the other players released a prisoner in the camp...who happened to be a shapeshifted dracolich.

Rules are...

An important facet of any game, but in my opinion they should never interfere with the enjoyment of everyone at the table. Rules can be bent, changed, or sometimes broken, so long as the game remains cohesive. I want my players to know that I prioritize fun, but there are still lines to follow!

When it comes to voices

D&D is one of the reasons I became a voice actor. It gave me an excuse to try out all manner of crazy voices and accents, and I've spent many years constantly working to make my voices better. They're an incredibly important part of my games, and I'm always working to get better every time.

Bryson (VP Breesone)'s ideal table

I try to make my tables accessible to all types of players. Regardless of your level of experience, I strive to help my players fully understand their mechanics and the mechanics of the world. Whether that means typing up cheat sheets or meeting with players one-on-one to answer any questions they have, I do my best to make sure nobody gets left behind. I try to keep the table's mood light, no matter the setting of the game. Whether it's a gritty sci-fi campaign or a lighthearted holiday one-shot, I believe it's important to remember that we're all playing a game and we're here to tell a story. I want everyone to be comfortable and happy, but still remain focused on the narrative at hand.

I am for a vibe that's...

Relaxed but focused. At the end of the day, we're all playing a game, but it is important to remain in the moment whenever possible. I don't completely ban phones or off-topic at the table, but I will issue restrictions if it becomes a problem. It's not a board meeting, but do try to pay attention!

I love it when a player

A player showing interest in the world and its lore is an easy way into my heart, especially if they want to try unconventional strategies or weave their character's backstory into the world.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Refusing to learn game mechanics is a red flag for me. I'm lenient with newer players, but if it's been 10+ sessions and you still don't bother to get a basic grasp of the game, it shows me that you don't care.
