About TheSaltRobot
Greetings, you can call me Salt! I'm 21 years old, and an engineering student. I have ADHD and autism, which mostly work together to make sure I spend hours focusing on D&D. I enjoy making music and drawing, and I'm constantly trying to improve in both. Running games is one of my great passions. I've been GMing for about 8 years now. I got my start in middle school, right before covid, just running some goofy dungeon crawls for my best friends. Since then, I have run several home games and online campaigns. A few, I'm proud of, but many were lessons learned, stepping stones that I gave me the experience and wisdom I needed to grow as a GM and as a person. In those years, I've met so many wonderful people and lifelong friends, and I'm excited to keep that going.

I started running games because...
I was the one in my friend group that bought the rules. Over time, as I ran games and got better at it, TTRPGs became just another way for me to hang out with friends. When I went to college, it became a way for me to meet new friends. The bonds I share over TTRPGS are very close to my heart.
My favorite shows/movies are
a lot of anime, things like Fullmetal Alchemist, Chainsaw Man, Trigun, etc. I'm not too keen on the standard shonen power fantasy. I'm a sucker for good animation. Castlevania is one of my favorite shows, in addition to it looking gorgeous.
When I'm not running games I'm...
doing a lot of things! I'm mostly an engineering student, but I also enjoy drawing, music, and video games. I enjoy a lot of metroidvanias, soulslikes, and other single player experiences. I like a lot of indie bands, and love discovering new ones. When I find time, I love to hike!
How TheSaltRobot runs games
My focus as a GM is on mechanical weight, and in-depth roleplay. I pride myself on my knowledge of 5e's systems, and have plenty of places that I deviate from those systems. My primary aim when I run a game is to craft a unique experience that combines both combat and roleplay together to make every roll count and every fight meaningful. I run a lot of house rules and systems, many shamelessly inspired from other systems and creators, all in an effort to make D&D more mechanically substantial and fun to play. If my players want to try something unique, I'm all for it. Because of my experience with 5e, I like to bend a lot of the standard notions. Majority of my combats are heavily homebrewed, and require more thinking than just "I run up and hit the big guy!". My fights are reactive, dynamic, and roleplay doesn't stop just because initiative was rolled. When I run campaigns, I put a lot of work into weaving my player's backstories into the game. I want my players to feel excited, and a little terrified, for what I have planned for them. Of course, this is a two way street. If I am to work in a character's backstory, I need players who are willing to give me things to work with. As well, my experience in making homebrew allows me to help my players make the kind of subclass, race, or other features that make their character ideas work mechanically. Lastly, in ambiance, I really like using music and try to give important characters themes to work off of and give a little indication of who they may be.

Rules are...
Merely a vehicle through which the story is told. If something feels particularly lacking, I'm willing to change it or ignore it if it gets in the way of a character's big moment.
TheSaltRobot's ideal table
I am generally looking for a table that works alongside me, gives me things to play off of both in their backstories as well as in their roleplay. I will never say that I am perfect, I most certainly am not, so I am always willing to accept suggestions that make the game more interesting. TTRPGs are a conversation, so feel free to get involved! Vibe wise, I am not too serious. There are times for brevity and times for locking in, and I will be plainly clear when it is time for either. While I enjoy a bit of terror in my games, I never want to make my players uncomfortable and encourage them to speak up if they ever feel that way.

I think min/maxing...
is perfectly fine! I like it when my players are powerful, just means I get to run more "fun" combats. Of course, there's a difference between minmaxing and powergaming while skirting the rules. If your awesome build gets in the way of others having fun, I will step in.
My table is not the place for...
any kind of bigotry, at all. If you don't like that, look elsewhere for a game.
