About Roe

I'm a long-time TTRPG player, game master, and game designer, having spent the better part of two decades involved in the hobby in one way or another. Besides tabletop games, I am a musician, writer, and roleplayer in the MMO RP scene.

I became a GM because

I wanted to bring folks who hadn't had the chance to try TTRPGs the joy of one of my favorite hobbies.

People are always surprised when I tell them

I enjoyed D&D Fourth Edition.

When I'm not running games I'm...

thinking hard about where words come from.

How Roe runs games

First and foremost, I prioritize the comfort and enjoyment of the players at the table. If we're not all able to engage earnestly and enthusiastically, then I'm willing to work to do what we can to make that happen. I love to balance things between the tactical and the narrative, catering to the players' interests. I enjoy collaborating with players for details of the world beyond simply their own characters, creating that universe together as a group. I do my fair share of voices and evocative descriptions, certainly. I'm also one to pay attention to the details. If I can add a touch of polish or go an extra mile to make something stand out or have a special quality, especially if it relates to a player or their character, I'm all for taking those opportunities.

I prep by

not only being sure I have what I need, but also getting into a mindset that builds on what my players bring to the table, too.

My games focus on...

the characters brought to life by the players and the shared story we're all contributing to at the table.

Rules are...

meant to help us craft the kind of story we want to tell, but are not the end-all-be-all. Rulings win out over rules, when we're all focused on the same goal.

Roe's ideal table

Generally, I get along with players who are ready to bring their earnest effort to the session, not just in their own character's interests but the rest of the party as well. Folks that are considerate of the other players, who share the goal of telling a good story and having a good time doing so, and who know how to take the session seriously while not taking themselves too seriously will find a comfy fit at my table.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

relaxed but engaged.

I think it's a red flag when players...

try to influence or control another player's behavior, in the game or at the table alike.

My table is not the place for...

'gaming' the systems, making perfectly advantageous choices every step of the way.
