About Rexenstein
I grew up in the 80s and 90s, in a golden age of comic books, horror movies, fantasy and sci-fi tv shows and of course tabletop role-playing games. Though I didn't get to play as much as I wanted to as a kid, joining randoms groups at the local comic shop whenever I could, I found that as an adult I could play as much as I wanted as a forever DM. I have been running campaigns and one-shots for friends and family members for the last five years. I enjoy a variety of games but have found that most of my players gravitate toward Dungeons & Dragons. In terms of fantasy, I am inspired by authors like Jack Vance, Michael Moorcock and Andrzej Sapkowski. I lean more toward elements of horror and value roleplaying and character interaction more than combat scenarios but understand the feeling of victory after a great battle. I also know the value of the social elements of playing TTRPGs and how more people found a new creative and social outlet most recently through the pandemic. I see roleplaying as an escape from the stresses of reality, an opportunity to express oneself creatively and artistically and a cooperative storytelling exercise that builds lasting memories.

I became a GM because
I couldn't find a group to game with so I made my own. Now I am living happily as a forever DM.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, and Alien RPG
When I'm not running games I'm...
going to the gym, playing video games, and reading fantasy, horror and sci-fi novels.
How Rexenstein runs games
As a GM I encourage roleplaying interactions. I try to create NPCs that come to life with distinct voices, mannerisms and personalities. For combat I attempt to create cinematic and immersive encounters which play out like an action scene instead of a just a series of dice rolls. I also like to integrate puzzles and problem-solving opportunities that allow players to use creativity and ingenuity based on their character's abilities. I want to give each player opportunities to shine and lean into their backstory.

My games focus on...
allowing the party to lead the way, encouraging roleplay and creativity.
When it comes to voices
I don't expect my players to use them but I try to use accents and mannerisms to entertain and make it easier to differentiate between NPCs.
Rexenstein's ideal table
I look for characters with range that are just as comfortable with a serious moment as they are with a little levity. Players should "be" their characters at the table instead of playing them like a video game character.

My table is not the place for...
chaos agents. I try to give realistic responses to player decisions. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
