About Rob Zakes - Ramble On Games
Who am I? A GM who loves to tell shared stories and laugh a lot. A GM with a background in writing, who focuses on story and creativity. A person who strives to make a safe and inclusive space so that people can feel free to role play with one another. My tables are a place of peace in a tumultuous world, and I do my best to maintain that peace. With one of my games you can expect: - A focus on roleplay, and the room to explore character relationships - Player driven narratives. You are the heroes. It's your story. - Full voice acting, and some physical performance to go with it -For games with a focus on combat, tactical thinking will trump character builds or anything else. Be smart: not every combat is booked for you to win. - To laugh harder than you have all week!

I became a GM because
I became a GM because I was the only one in my friend group who was willing to learn the rules. I stayed a GM because I had a natural talent for it. Brining people together around the table and seeing the story that we develop together is one of life's true joys.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Evil. Nefarious. Tricky. It's said lovingly (well, I hope that it's said lovingly). I love it when players tell stories, and I love reacting to what players bring to the table. Does that mean I sometimes get a little devious? Well, I like to have fun too. But I focus on maintaining player's fun.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Running, watching movies, playing video games, reading, snowboarding. I love getting out in nature and let that influence the way I run games. My best ideas come to me when I'm running.
How Rob Zakes - Ramble On Games runs games
I focus on role-play and story. I like integrating Player Character's history into the story to create a bespoke experience around player choices. I don't like railroading the party or taking over. I run everything from narrative stories that focus on roleplay, to exploration adventures, and challenging tactical combat.

I deal with rules issues by...
If there's a conflict of rules during play that cannot be resolved quickly, I will default to the reading that benefits the players. I'll then review later and make a formal decision.
Rules are...
Guidelines that can help settle disputes about what should happen. But if a rule gets in the way of the narrative, then there is no use for the rule.
