About Rich

Waddup Folks!? My name is Rich, I go by DM Rich. I've been playing and DMing for 38 years! Started with 1e and jumped into 2e as a youngster then fully embraced 3/3.5e as a young adult. Now I play 5/5.5e and I love it! The simplicity helps to entice new players, and I absolutely LOVE playing with Newbies as well as Veteran Players!

My favorite books are

Anything written by R.A. Salvatore, especially the Dark Elf Series. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Forgotten Realms Novels.

My favorite shows/movies are

I am a huge Fantasy buff, so anything Fantasy, and some Sci-Fi. I also enjoy Rom-Coms, Action, Adventure, Drama, and More! Not a huge fan of Horror films though. Jump Scares aren’t my thing. I can watch them, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to do so.

People are always surprised when I tell them

My belief that soul energy is either Masculine, Feminine, both Masculine and Feminine, or neither Masculine or Feminine. When we pass from this life into the next, our soul energy remembers its energy signature. Even, and especially when born into a body that doesn’t match the energy signature.

How Rich runs games

I have a very unique GM style. Since I have been DMing for 38 years, I know what Players want, and I do not limit my Player's Character choices. I will make it work. I do not take away any agency either. It's your Character to play, not mine. I would call myself more of an Improvisational Narrator more than a Storyteller. I react to your choices in-Game, and those choices shape the adventure/story. I have a few Homebrew rules that I implement in all my games. Starting with Character Creation. In D&D we are playing Heroes, not Commoners, so I do not use Standard Array or Point Buy. I use my own method where your Stats range from 9-18. Basically, you roll 4d6, reroll 1's and 2's, and keep the highest three dice totals. Minimum is 3x3, and maximum is 3x6. Very simple and straightforward. I also grant an addition feat at 1st level, and Max HP. Again, we are playing gifted Heroes, NOT Commoners turned Adventurers. Crits are Max + Roll, Fumbles get a DEX check for recovery, Cantrips are Bonus Actions, but if cast as an Action you get fully scaled Damage. Yes, you CAN cast a Cantrip as an Action and a BA, with BA Cantrips being base level (1d Damage). Same goes for melee Characters if you want to use a Dagger, or a Shield Bash, or even a Headbutt, No stat bonus to damage unless you have the Feat. I allow you to use your Reaction to Dodge/Block/Counterattack, on top of any special Reactions you get from your Class. I do Voices, and set the scenes as visually as possible.

I deal with rules issues by...

Reminding my Players that the Rules are more like Guidelines, and that I have specific Homebrew rules in place that supersede RAW.

My games focus on...

Allowing the PC’s to run who they want, how they want, and making it work within the game. I’m not here to create limitations to your fun, or take your agency away.

When it comes to voices

I try to create unique voices for each NPC that embodies that NPC’s description and appearance.

Rich's ideal table

My table is very logic/common sense oriented with Homebrew rules to create a unique, accepting and fun environment. I prefer open minded Players that want to have fun and meet new like-minded Players. The general vibe is that we are here to have fun and play D&D!

I love it when a player

Thinks outside the box, keeps me on my toes, Role Plays their character very well, Takes notes, Uses strategy in sticky situations, and generally has fun with the game.

I think min/maxing...

Min-Maxing is part of the game. I love building characters, and allow Multiclassing. I also grant ASI’s by Character level rather than Class level.

My table is not the place for...

Rules Lawyers, Main Character Syndrome, Racism, or Real World Politics.
