About Nelson
Hi there! I’m an English and Spanish teacher with a lifelong passion for role-playing games, video games, and storytelling. Although I’m fairly new to the TTRPG hobby, I bring years of experience in language education, helping students find creative and meaningful ways to practice English and Spanish as second languages. I’m currently exploring the fascinating intersection between language learning and tabletop role-playing, using TTRPGs as immersive, collaborative tools for communication and expression. Beyond teaching and gaming, I love to read and write fantasy fiction, drawing inspiration from legends like J.R.R. Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, and Raymond E. Feist. Whether you’re here to play, learn, or tell stories together, I’m always excited to roll some dice and craft unforgettable adventures.

I became a GM because
I became a Game Master because I wanted to bring my passion for teaching and my love of storytelling together in one place. As an English and Spanish instructor, I’ve seen how powerful immersion and creativity can be for language learning.
My favorite books are
Sanderson’s Mistborn saga, Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and El País de la Canela by William Ospina. I also enjoy nonfiction in anthropology and history, like Grandin’s América América and Harari’s Nexus.
My favorite shows/movies are
Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings for its high fantasy roots, Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth for its unforgettable creatures, and Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle for its enchanting worldbuilding and magic.
How Nelson runs games
My games are narrative-forward, driven by rich descriptions, character choices, and immersive role-play. I love creating scenes with atmosphere and emotional weight; moments where players feel truly inside the world, shaping the story through their actions and personalities. I follow a Rule-of-Cool philosophy: if it fits the tone, fuels creativity, and makes the table excited, I’ll always look for a way to say “yes.” Mechanically, my approach is based on Describe → Roll → Describe. I encourage players to explain how they prepare their actions and visualize their intent before the dice hit the table. Then, depending on the results, I animate their success or failure with vivid narration, always respecting the story, the stakes, and “the will of the dice.” Expect a collaborative experience where players help build the world through role-play, character agency matters, and every roll has meaning. My goal is to create sessions that feel dynamic, cinematic, and memorable for everyone at the table.
