About Zurest / Tyler
Hello! I'm Zurest. I'm Non-Binary and use He/They pronouns. Most of my time has been with D&D and it is the system I'm most familiar and comfortable with but I am always and forever willing to learn and explore new things, that is how we grow after all. :D I've been a TTRPG-er since 2000ish when I was introduced to Dungeons and Dragons on a summer camp trip and immediately fell in love. Since then I've played in the 3.5th, 4th, and 5th editions of D&D, the older Star Wars D20 system, Vampire: The Masquerade, and Mage: The Awakening. I've been running mostly 5th edition D&D games since mid 2016. I've run adventure modules and homebrewed worlds/settings with influences from my favorite books, manga, and movies. I take great care when running any game to make sure that everyone involved has a clear sense of what boundaries people have, what tone the game will take, what topics and issues we've all agreed will or won't be present in a given campaign. I like to use the following safety tools: Session 0(zero), Lines and Veils, and R|Y|G cards. I also strive to be as inclusive and representative as possible in the worlds I create and the games I run. I'm always willing to answer questions and address concerns or issues as they arise. I appreciate your time, and consideration of me and the games I'm offering. I hope to see you at the table!

How Zurest / Tyler runs games
I'm a fan of making sure that everyone feels the spotlight, has their character arc, and overall feels like they have made an impact in the world we are playing in, we're telling a collaborative story after all. I can be flexible with the rules as written, but often only if there is a good explanation as to why it would work or if it seems thematically appropriate. I also hold players accountable to their actions, you made your character, you should know how he/she/they work mechanically. I like using XP leveling, rewarding roleplay and ingenuity as much as I do combat. I'll often do voices or accents for NPC's. I like tactical "crunchy" combat and gameplay as much as i like softer more roleplay focused gameplay and often try to strike a balance between the two as i feel it brings the most life to the world.

I deal with issues by trying to find the rule(s) as quick as i can and applying appropriately, or if i can't find it, making a ruling w/ the caveat that i may rule differently in the future once i've had time to better look at the rules
I once ran a session...
I once ran a 4 day long session for a bachelor party. I prepped Dungeon of the Mad Mage tailored it a bit to the party and once we were all on site and settled in it was an almost non-stop dungeon delve. That event is one I'm most proud of since it's the longest continuous session I've ever run.
Rules are...
Rules are fantastic guidelines and provide clear boundaries for helping to make informed decisions, however, they are just that guidelines. I once let a necromancer and a druid use the mending cantrip to create a door of flesh as an example. Make a good argument and good roll and cool always wins.
Zurest / Tyler's ideal table
I am flexible, I like having a chill easy going vibe as much as i like having a serious or silly vibe, so long as everyone at the table is in agreement on what the vibe is and not to harsh the vibe then all is good. I really do chameleon to what they players are feeling or asking for. I've done super grim and gritty, I've done fluffy and lighthearted, and everywhere in between. I am probably most comfortable somewhere in that happy middle between grim and fluffy, being serious but not always taking things too seriously. Art, and games are imitations and extensions of life and should reflect the depth and breadth of the real world absurdities and wonders we all face.

I think metagaming...
I think there is a fine line to walk w/ metagaming. What really gets me frustrated is when players have characters in different areas or scenes and try to share knowledge across the table when the characters are not in a position to communicate that way.
I think min/maxing...
is fine as long as it's not used as a means to take the fun away from others at the table. I believe that everyone should be able to play their characters how they want to as long as they are being respectful to everyone else's decisions and intentions for how their character is run.
