About me
Hello and well met! My name is David McBride or DM the DM if you prefer. I’m relatively new to StartPlaying but my journey with tabletop began more than 20 years ago. I got my start as a player with D&D 3.5 and Vampire the Masquerade. However in 2020, like a lot of people, I suddenly found myself with a lot of time on my hands. That’s when I decided to get behind the DM screen and instantly fell in love with it. I don’t know how I made it two decades without diving in but I’ve tried to make up for lost time in the past three years running D&D, VTM, Call of Cthulhu, Monster of the Week, Kids on Bikes, and any other RPG system I can convince people to let me try. I do my best to get in a good mix of roleplay and combat but the focus is always on entertainment so I remain flexible to deliver a tailored game specific to every group. Balanced parties? Great! Oops, all bards? Even better! 3 hour shopping sessions? Let me reach way back into my retail experience and let’s roll. Whatever your style, let's create a world together.
GM Style
It seems cliché but I honestly try and bring a decent blend of the three pillars RP, combat, and exploration to every game. I'm a full time horror nerd but I also have a background in improv and stand up comedy. My first priority will always be entertainment.

DM is good at rewarding players for critical thinking, and fun solutions to their 'what if' questions. Details are always present for us players to get the best out of the scenario, even if we don't always listen to them. lol Fun guy, and works very well with new players.

David is the best kind of dungeon master. I’m not sure if he’s capable of getting tripped up. No matter how many curve balls we tried to throw his way he just kept running. It truly felt like we could do anything in his world and the narrative would keep going.

I bought the Starter Kit for my player group but none of us were confident enough to take on the role of DM so we reached out to David and he stepped up. He was able to fully deliver the game we wanted after we asked if he could put a comedic spin on the existing material since Dimension 20 is what got us interested in trying D&D in the first place. His patience for our inexperience and sometimes embarrassing attempts at roleplaying was a godsend. My group is still trying to get our schedules together for a greater adventure and David will be my first choice to DM once we figure it out.

David is the one that taught me how to play D&D and I needed A LOT of handholding. He not only explained how things worked but also gives great examples for why things worked in certain ways that made it very easy to understand. I look forward to playing with him again.
