About the adventure
[👥Pre-made Character Sheets Available!👥] The Onyx Citadel, the royal capital which once stood as a proud beacon of prosperity and wealth, has since fallen into darkness and silence. Monsters abound in the wilds, unchecked by the once honorable Onyx Guard, who now enforce tyranny and oppression upon the weak. Rumors of a strange and magickal illness are whispered among the settlements of the province. Those who question the new order disappear. Those who defy it are made an example of. The faiths of the old guards are strictly forbidden. All are yoked under a new and reclusive prince, who rules the lands from the shadows of the great Spire Palace. The journey will be dangerous, the enemies nigh insurmountable. Will you take the journey to uncover the secrets of The Onyx Citadel? This campaign will use the award-winning Shadowdark RPG and run from levels 3 to 10. All players and experience levels are welcome! Combat: ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️▪️ A good portion of our campaign will be testing your skills in combat. My philosophy with encounters is to pick enemy types and numbers based on the pacing rather than simply rolling randomly. Exploration:🔎🔎🔎🔎▪️▪️ I enjoy letting the table look around and soak up the atmosphere of an area, letting the environment carry the brunt of world-building and storytelling. You are exploring a world with a history, after all! Puzzles: 🧩🧩🧩▪️▪️ Think less "hit four switches in the right order" and more "solve a problem without stabbing it." Not every issue can be overcome the same way, and thinking outside the box is rewarded. Travel: 🚶♂️➡️🚶♂️➡️▪️▪️▪️ This is a hex crawl, meaning you will travel long distances between locations. However, travel will likely never take up very much time in a session, as I like to cover point A to B scenes in broad strokes. Roleplay: 🎭🎭🎭🎭▪️ Relationships and interactions between characters matter! Even if it's something simple, there will be plenty of chances to get into character and build a story together! Comedy: 😆😆😆▪️▪️ We keep things lighthearted at the table, enjoying the clever and sometimes hilarious interactions we create between PCs and NPCs alike. Come ready to have fun! 【PbP Adventures】 This campaign also has Play by Post adventure options, which charge a flat rate for the week. I'm originally from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, but I currently live in Tokyo, Japan. I speak English and Japanese, and a little bit of Mandarin. I'm a writer, animator, artist, conlanger, worldbuilder, and GM (as you can probably tell)! I started running tabletop RPGs shortly after trying them for the first time, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Patient with someone who has been away from both TTRPGs and the Edge Star Wars system for awhile. Knows his stuff and is well prepared, clearly with a story in mind that is challenging, fun, and intriguing. He puts in a lot of work with the story and features beforehand, and plans ahead to include all characters' storylines/backstories in the campaign, including with invoking Obligation/Duty as appropriate. At the same time, he's good at coming up with an engaging encounter on the spot. Recommend!

I always join two campaigns and stay in the best one. I thought this game was the one I would drop at first just because of the few players and it not being a module but the GM surprised me. Kellan makes an open world that feels realistic and interesting and has lots to do even when simply traveling. Also makes exciting combat that is challenging and is not afraid to give long term negative consequences to players characters which surprised me.

Character creation
Creating your character
Characters can be created using the Shadowdarklings website and any official Shadowdark content! As long as a character is approved by me before a session, I allow for character building outside of game time. I am also happy to help new players build a character from scratch! After rolling randomly down the line, I allow for one switch of two stats of your choice. This allowance provides players with the opportunity to play a class they're interested in.

What to expect
Preparing for the session
Having a Discord account and a solid internet connection/browser is the most important thing :) A created character is optional! We can either make them together or you can make one ahead of the game.
What Keilan brings to the table
I will bring the virtual tabletop, music, character sheets, and the core Shadowdark rules and character creation tools! My biggest goal is to foster a fun and engaging game for ALL players, giving each character a chance to shine and recording memories from each session to look back on. The rule of cool often takes precedence over rules-as-written, especially if you give me an irresistibly creative suggestion!
