About DM Lyca

The name is Lyca, and I want to play a game with YOU! I've been playing ttrpgs for pretty much my entire life- My parents got me started when I was 2 years old!- and I started running games for other people when I was 12. I've learned a thing or two about running games over the years, and there's nothing I find more joy in than running a game. I particularly helping people learn to play D&D for the first time. D&D is a system that's near and dear to my heart, and I'm always open to running a new campaign. I enjoy roleplay, story telling, and world building the most. Combat is fun and can present interesting challenges, but I use it as a tool, not the end-all-be-all of games. So if you prefer to focus on your character and their story, then I would love to work with you.

I became a GM because

... TTRPGs are my passion. My parents raised me on them, and they've brought me joy throughout my life. Now I want to bring that joy to everyone, and I do that through running games.

My favorite books are

... fantasy novels, war memoirs, and fanfiction! My top favorite is a fanfiction title Fallout: Equestria. (Don't laugh unless you've actually tried to give it a read!)

When I'm not running games I'm...

... drawing, camping, and playing video games with my lovely wife.

How DM Lyca runs games

I prefer running roleplay-centric games, where we tell a story together and explore the characters. I'm not afraid of running combat, and I enjoy running horror-themed campaigns too, but my true love is always going to be roleplay. Nothing gets me more excited then seeing a player bring me a five-page backstory. I'm also particularly experienced with teaching new players how to play dungeons and dragons. I've brought many people into the fold, several of whom have eventually gone to run games of their own. In the end, I want everyone to have fun, and I work hard to make sure all of my players are able to enjoy the game.

I once ran a session...

...with 20 players! My players were going to a political dinner as diplomats, and I had all of the NPCs played by guest players! It was a very fun night, and it still comes up to this day. (This happened ten years ago!)

My games focus on...

...Roleplay, characters, and story. I'm here to help the players experience the world through the lens of their characters. I want us all to tell a story together.

Rules are...

... important, but not the end-all-be-all. I think of rules as a good way to establish how to play, but if there's a rule that's interfering with how I want to tell a story with my players, I will gladly get rid of it.

DM Lyca's ideal table

My table is the perfect spot for queers, weirdos, and neurodivergent folk. As a LGBT and neurodivergent DM, I find I mesh best with those who are as well. My table is also the perfect spot for roleplayers and for those who want a game focused more on the story than on combat. I also love new players who have never gotten to play before.

Roleplay!

I think it's a red flag when players...

...aren't willing to work as part of the team. The table is for all of the players, not just you, and part of the game is the interactions between you all as players. Communication is also critical, and It's essential for being a player in a group game.

My table is not the place for...

Those who want constant combat, min-maxing, PVP, or kick-in-the-door play. No offense to those who enjoy that style of play! It just isn't how I run my games.
